A new Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leak may actually explain the game’s title and a few of the story details behind Link’s adventure across a torn-apart Hyrule. The next tale in the popular Nintendo franchise is due to arrive for Switch consoles in May, when players will be able to unravel the mystery of what exactly happened to the continent after Link and Zelda meddled with the mummified body – seemingly Ganondorf’s – in Hyrule Castle, and where the princess wound up after being set apart from her knight. It was implied that the Tears of the Kingdom made reference to the disappearance of the region’s princess immediately after her rescue, or perhaps how parts of the region float around as sky islands, much like tear drops falling from the heavens. However, a new Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leak seems to suggest the tears are actually much more straightforward than originally thought and may not only explain the title, but a major gameplay element that is directly tied to the lore itself.

Tears May Actually Be Collectibles According to Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom’s Leak

According to an alleged Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leak posted by Yaheh on Reddit, the Nintendo Switch game may actually have a few collectibles in the form of tears, that may be essential to the story. With an artwork montage posted on the website, it seems like Link may be hunting tears to complete a certain puzzle. According to the pictures, it seems like there will be a total of seven tears that Link needs to collect, and they are somewhat related to a seemingly important Hylian character – many of whom speculate she is Zelda’s mother.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Leak May Indicate Return Of Classic Dungeons

The Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leak also seems to suggest that, in order to obtain these tear collectibles, Link will have to go through certain types of trials. Due to their scarcity, it does not seem like they will be anything like the simple puzzles offered by Shrines, but complete activities and longer-form that bring back classic dungeons, which were not present in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. These dungeons may even be the main substitute for Breath of the Wild’s Divine Beasts, all of which should have been defeated and cleansed by Link before taking on Calamity Ganon.

Of course, all of these are alleged leaks and should be taken with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leak seems to be matching what was shown of the game so far, and the possible return of dungeons seems like a good choice for the franchise, especially gameplay-wise. When it comes to lore, a lot is still shrouded in mystery, even with the leaks, but it does seem like the tears that Link collects on his adventure using his many abilities in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may be the key to restoring Hyrule.

Regardless of the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom leak, players will still have much to uncover and discover within the game. If the previous game is anything to consider, there will be much more in Hyrule to find than the main puzzles and stories. Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom arrives for Nintendo Switch on May 12.
