In 2022, when the project was still titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year, Disney confirmed that the new animated series had been renewed for a second season, which was at that time known as Spider-Man: Sophomore Year. Then, speaking with The Movie Podcast in January 2025, Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, revealed that the program had already been renewed for a third season. Brad Winderbaum also revealed some details to The Movie Podcast about the show’s status, stating: “I’ve now read all the scripts for season 2, we’re halfway through the animatics. What Jeff is building brick by brick in this show starts to pay off.” While little is actually known about the season 2, it does appear that production on the show has been envisioned as a longtime project. Season 2 was confirmed in 2022, and much of the shape of the show seems to have been built with this longer outlook in mind.
As for production time, the creatives behind the show have expressed hope to have season 2 out more swiftly than season 1. Several years of production went into creating the new series, with its announcement tracing back to 2021. On The Disinsider, Trammell confirmed that, while release schedules are not up to him, he certainly does not intend to leave a three or four-year gap between seasons. Showrunner Jeff Trammell did confirm when speaking with Paste Magazine, however, that each season is not committed to only representing a single year from Peter's high school journey. Following these comments, as well as his excitement about building up some of Spider-Man's villains over a longer period of time, something that has already been seen throughout the first season.
Perhaps the biggest narrative question mark for season 2 and beyond is the inclusion of Richard Parker into the story. Normally, Peter Parker's parents are dead, which leads to him living with Uncle Ben and Aunt May, but it was revealed that Richard Parker is alive, changing the status quo of the character in massive ways. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 floated the idea of Richard Parker being alive around with a deleted scene of him, but it was never included, making his inclusion in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man all that more intriguing.
