Marienne looking worried in a Close-up In You season 4

In You season 3, Marienne is Joe’s new obsession and love interest. After assisting her with her custody battle over her daughter, Joe is able to gain her trust and convince her to run away with him. As usual, Joe’s plan to live happily ever after with his obsession goes south, with Love telling Marienne to stay away from Joe. You season 3 finale concludes with Joe stalking Marienne in Paris. You season 4, episode 1 reveals that Joe follows her from Paris to London.

In You season 4, episode 1, Marienne sees Joe and is instantly horrified. She runs away, only to be caught by Joe who tries to convince her to not be afraid. Episode 1 also explains how Joe becomes Jonathan Moore, through the help of Quinn’s family fixer-upper Elliot. He tells Joe that he must kill Marienne to tie up loose ends. However, Joe lets Marienne escape and lies to Elliot about killing her. You season 4 doesn’t provide any more information on Marienne leaving a few questions, such as where she went, whether she is going to tell the police about Joe, or whether she will ever see her daughter again.

9 How Did Rhys Figure Out Joe’s True Identity?

Joe and Rhys in You season 4 part 1

After Rhys discovers that Joe can get rid of a body pretty efficiently, he starts to send him texts through a disappearing message app. Apparently, Joe isn’t as good at playing professor as he seems because Rhys figures out pretty quickly that he really isn’t a professor. At the end of You season 4, episode 2, Joe discovers that Rhys has broken into his apartment and posted all of his crimes up on the wall.

Rhys somehow connects Guinevere’s death to Joe’s other crimes in suburbia. While Joe hasn’t always been the stealthiest criminal, it is still a stretch that Rhys would be able to connect all of his murders. However, Rhys does have resources and is in the political world. Even with this in mind, Rhys put together Joe’s crime history pretty quickly, making his actions questionable at best.

8 How Did Rhys Murder Gemma Without Being Caught?

Gemma pointing at the camera in You season 4

Despite being in the group’s circle, Rhys is not seen at the murder mystery party at the Hampsie House. Yet, he is somehow able to get in and murder Gemma without being caught. No one heard Gemma scream, so it seems like Rhys was stealthy enough to get away with it.

One key question is how Rhys was able to skip the murder mystery party that the group supposedly hosts every year. It's also unclear when Rhys got to the Hampsie House, as well as how exactly he went about murdering Gemma. This highlights how, while the Rhys twist was effective, it wasn't watertight as a development.

7 Where Was Rhys The Whole Time They Were At The Hampsie House?

Gemma and friends in You season 4

Rhys doesn’t reveal himself until You season 4, episode 5. He seems to appear out of nowhere, but he could’ve been hiding the entire time. If he arrived earlier, it is probable he could be hiding in the basement until he decided it was the right time to murder Gemma.

However, it's not clear how Rhys managed to get to the Hampsie House in the first place. If he drove there, someone could have seen his parked car or heard it pull up. After all, since Kate had some security guards in the area, it shouldn't have been that easy to get inside. This raises questions about how Rhys could stop himself from looking seriously suspicious and his plans from being foiled.

6 How Is Joe Going To Prove That Rhys Is The Killer?

Rhys holding memoir in You season 4

After Joe escapes from the burning house, he doesn’t tell Kate or Roald about who chained them up. Even though Joe doesn’t have proof that Rhys is a serial killer, Kate seems to find Joe honest. Joe also needs to make sure he can reveal the Eat The Rich killer before Rhys can reveal Jonathan Moore’s true identity.

Additionally, Joe is only aware of Rhys’ crimes because he covered up one of them. Also, Rhys and Joe’s discourse is conducted via a disappearing message app. Joe doesn’t have any physical proof of Rhys’ crimes. Plus Rhys’ mayoral campaign will only make it harder for Joe to catch him.

5 What Is Rhys’ Larger Plan?

You Season 4 Part 2 Trailer Rhys

You season 4 part 1 ends with Rhys announcing that he is running for mayor. In his announcement, he mentions the Eat The Rich killer and how the killer is a symptom of people's disgust with the rich. Despite being rich himself, Rhys poses himself as one of the people. Although Rhys might not have intended for the Eat The Rich killer to help his campaign, it is likely he saw an opportunity after his plan to frame Joe failed. This is the reason that he sends Malcolm's severed finger to the London Dispatch. This action proves that Rhys wants the media to be aware of the killer.

Rhys' mayoral campaign is significant, not only because You season 4, part 1 ends with its announcement, but it is brought up in the first episode of the season. Rhys' plans as mayor aren't revealed, but his campaign may prove sinister. Since Rhys is using the Eat The Rich killer to illustrate how the lower class is sick of the rich, he may incite violence towards the upper class. It is also scary that a murderous psychopath may be put in a position of power. Not to mention, his newfound political power may be very bad for Joe.

4 Will Joe and Kate Get Back Together In You Season 4 Part 2?

Joe and Kate standing next to eachother in You season 4

You season 4, part 1 ends with Kate asking Joe to the pub, but he rejects her to keep her safe. However, Joe has rejected women before for the same reason, with both Love and Marienne. No matter how hard Joe resists, it seems Joe always goes back to his obsession with the foolish hope that things will go differently. Since Kate lives across from him, it is likely they will run into each other quite a bit. Joe might not be able to control himself, or he might be put in a situation where he must save her.

After all, Joe didn't want to get involved with Kate in the first place. Yet, he still slept with her in You season 4, part 1. He obviously cares for Kate and will probably keep an eye on her to keep her safe. Also, it is likely that Kate won't take kindly to being rejected and continue to try to get Joe to it his true feelings.

3 Will Kate Die In You Season 4 Part 2?

Charlotte Richie as Kate Galvin in You

With the exception of Marienne, Joe has a habit of killing those he is obsessed with. Although, Joe's low body count this season, along with his mercy for Marienne, may show that he is changing his murderous ways. Additionally, Rhys' texts gave Joe a dose of his own medicine, so he may try harder to be different from him. Therefore, it is unlikely that Joe will kill Kate, but that doesn't mean she is safe.

In You season 4, part 1, Rhys instructs Joe to kill Kate. It is clear that Kate is a target for Rhys because she is the richest in the group. Rhys also tries to frame Kate for Gemma's murder, so taking down Kate seems high on his list of objectives. To aid his mayoral campaign, Rhys may use Kate's death at the hands of the Eat The Rich killer to further show how the rich are being targeted.

2 Will Joe’s True Identity Be Revealed?

Penn-Badgley-You-Season-4-Part-1-Trailer

The You season 4, part 1 finale demonstrates Joe's determination to bring down Rhys. However, Rhys knows Joe's true identity and appears to have enough evidence to connect all of his crimes. If Joe comes close to revealing Rhys as the killer, Rhys could be a step ahead of him and reveal Joe's true identity. After all, Rhys has the resources as a rich man and will only gain more as his political power continues to grow. If Rhys becomes a symbol of the people, it will be harder for Joe to shatter this illusion which makes it easier for Rhys to bring Joe down instead.

Additionally, Penn Badgley seemingly confirms that You will be ending soon on an interview with Happy Sad Confused. While he signed a six-year contract, Badgley said he could only see them doing one more season after You season 4. Since another season isn't confirmed, You season 4 could also be the last season. While Joe may be likable in some aspects, he is guilty of many horrendous crimes which he needs to be punished for. It seems the only fitting way for You to end is to reveal Joe's true identity.

1 Who Else Will Die In You Season 4?

Elitist Group From You Season 4 Part 1

You season 4 so far has the highest kill count of the series. Rhys' Eat The Rich killer doesn't seem to show any sign of slowing down, especially if Rhys is using these killings to fuel his campaign. Rhys' elite friend group still has most of its , which means that any of them could be next. It is also possible that Rhys will target other rich socialites outside the group. If You season 4 marks the end of Joe Goldberg's story, You season 4's kill count could be the highest yet.

To avoid controversy over the ending, You season 4 must punish Joe for his crimes. While Joe could go to jail, it would also be a fitting end for Joe to die. No matter how much Joe tries to change, it does not change the horrific actions he is guilty of. You season 4, part 2 may mark the end of Joe's journey, but it also could set up a final season. However, the answers to these questions will not be answered until You season 4, part 2 is released on March 9th.
