In a surprising but hilarious move, the new costumes for Marvel Comics features the cast all wearing adorable sailor outfits, even the villainous dinosaur, Sauron. The violent group first came into being in the pages of the X-Men Unlimited Infinity comic, and have now been given a second arc which shows them to continue to fight for the fate of Planet Earth.
The X-Men Green team was founded by the young Nature Girl, Lin Li, who became radicalized after ing Krakoa and growing desensitized to the violence of humans. Lin Li's power makes her intimately connected to Earth and its animals, and Nature Girl quickly began a cross country murder spree after finding a turtle dead after swallowing a plastic bag. Along the way she picked up a German Shepard named Saoirse and the young mutant Curse, an evil-seeming mutant with a thirst for violence and mayhem. Eventually they also partnered with Sauron, a long time X-Men villain from the Savage Land, forming the first official X-Men Green team, dedicated to protecting the Earth, not just mutants.
After being captured by Wolverine during the first arc of the series, Nature Girl and Curse were sent to The Pit by the Quiet Council for slaughtering humans and breaking the first law of Krakoa, but were quickly freed by Cypher at the bequest of Krakoa, who seemed to sympathize with the mutants quest to save the planet from human devastation. Lin and Curse were seen escaping from Krakoa, now exiled mutants, with an unclear future but a mission in mind, to take down whatever humans are harming the Earth. Now, in X-Men Unlimited Infinity #29 - written by Karla Pacheco with art by Emilio Laiso and Rachelle Rosenberg - the team is back, and wearing ridiculous costumes. While the sailor outfits might have looked semi-normal on Nature Girl and Curse, it looks absolutely ridiculous on Sauron. Keep looking for a first glimpse at the comic, out now on Marvel Unlimited:
The official synopsis for the new arc of X-Men Green reads:
The latest arc in the fan-favorite anthology series picks up from the story first told in X-MEN UNLIMITED INFINITY COMIC #5-12 by Gerry Duggan and Laiso. Nature Girl and Curse, fresh off their imprisonment (and escape) from Krakoa, are determined to continue their mission to eliminate any human threat against the natural world. Commandeering a ship with the mind-controlling Sauron and former police dog Saoirse at their side, the foursome must adapt as a crew to track down a lead from the Marauders’ Pyro. Their first targets? A pack of whale hunters looking to hit it big. While their true whereabouts may be unknown to the Quiet Council, how long can Nature Girl and her radical renegades expect to go unnoticed? Especially once they attract the attention of a certain sea-dwelling sea-lord...
As the synopsis says, this story picks up in the middle of X-Men Green's next adventure, where they have followed clues left for them by Pyro's published romance novels to a crew of whale hunters. Sauron on his own is a wild and hilarious addition to the team, seeing as he is an incredibly powerful psychic in his own right who could definitely take on these missions single handedly it seems, but his addition makes this comic the perfect amount of "out there" for any reader. The first issue ends with the team running into King Namor, another character who often chooses the health of the planet over the safety of humans, so it will be hilarious to see if he sides with what they are doing and also s their crew.
The X-Men Green team is a fun reprieve from the intense, political, emotionally charged plots of the main X-Men series happening currently, and is a pure romp filled with weird powers, vicious killing, and truly adorable sailor costumes. Nature Girl, Curse, Sauron, and Saoirse make a unique and quirky crew, and the future of their team may have more of an impact on the greater Marvel Universe than anyone yet knows. Make sure to read X-Men Unlimited Infinity #29 to start the new arc of X-Men Green by Marvel Comics to see the team in some hilarious and adorable sailor outfits, including the intimidating dinosaur, Sauron.
