While the the MCU timeline has been using various X-Men actors from the Fox-Marvel era, it is also helping the audience get ready for Marvel Studios' reboot of the iconic characters. Even though updates have been limited about the direction of the X-Men in the MCU, a new reveal from the Marvel Studios president himself may be teasing some huge things to come in Phases 5 and 6.

At the Disney APAC Content Showcase (via Deadline,) which was being held in Singapore, Kevin Feige was virtually present through a video to tease the next few years of the MCU, which includes the X-Men. While not giving any details away about the X-Men reboot, Feige teased that fans may see some beloved mutants before the end of The Multiverse Saga, as they will lead into the "age of mutants," sharing the following:

I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.

What Kevin Feige's X-Men Comments Mean For The MCU

Throughout The Multiverse Saga, mutants have slowly been set up as a concept within the MCU, even if it hasn't focused on the traditional X-Men team itself. With characters like Ms. Marvel and Namor being revealed as mutants, Feige's comments indicate that they are finally getting ready to focus on more X-Men players. Even though Feige revealed previously that the X-Men would be important post-Avengers: Secret Wars, the fact that fans will get to experience them during Phase 6 speaks volumes to when and how Marvel Studios wants to set them up.

One detail that s Feige's recent comments about X-Men characters was the recent reveal that Storm will be in What If...? season 3, marking it the first project within the interconnected franchise to bring her in. With only a handful of projects lined up for Phase 6, there are only certain places where X-Men characters could be introduced before Avengers: Secret Wars wraps up The Multiverse Saga. That could include X-Men actors reprising their roles from the Fox-Marvel universe, or new stars being tapped as the main versions of those characters in the MCU.

Our Take On Kevin Feige's X-Men Update

New Avengers Secret Wars Logo by Marvel Studios

Based on Feige's latest update, having Avengers: Secret Wars set up the age of mutants for Phase 7 and beyond feels very fitting, especially as the final Phase 6 film is rumored to be setting up a soft reboot for the MCU. Whether this is the case or not, it will be exciting to see who Feige will cast for the MCU's X-Men reboot, as well as other projects that have yet to be revealed. Hopefully, new updates on the progression of the X-Men movie reboot will also emerge sooner rather than later, including who will direct the film.
