Warning: contains spoilers for She-Hulk #4!

The two parent companies Fox and Disney. For over a decade, the Inhumans were heavily promoted by Marvel while the X-Men were quietly shoved aside in many tie-ins and crossover events. But She-Hulk #4 finally shows that the two groups have made peace thanks to an unlikely partner: She-Hulk and the power of lawyers.

The Inhumans were created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and made their debut just before the famous Galactus Trilogy in the pages of Fantastic Four. Over time, the society of the Inhumans would receive more detail: the group obtains fantastic superhumans abilities when exposed to the Terrigen Mists. The Mists are harmless to other beings - until the Inhumans vs X-Men event, in which a massive world-threatening Terrigen cloud becomes fatal to to the mutant population of Earth. This triggers a bitter war between the Inhumans and X-Men.

But years later in She-Hulk #4, written by Rainbow Rowell with art by Luca Maresca, two key of both groups can be seen in the lawyer She-Hulk's office. Nightcrawler and Karnac stand close to each other, apparently both watching content on Kurt's phone. Just a few years ago, this would be a nigh-impossibility - but when the Thing sends dozens of clients She-Hulk's way, the lawyer has no choice but to see them all.

The X-Men and Inhumans in She-Hulk's office

The conflict between the X-Men and Inhumans was also perhaps motivated by a real-world incident: the success of 21st Century Fox's X-Men film franchise. Reluctant to promote the films of a rival company, Marvel (and by extension Disney) promoted the Inhumans over the X-Men in the comics: the Inhuman series was heavily promoted, the Attilan royal family (namely Black Bolt and other key Inhuman ) began appearing in other material, and the X-Men sat out most of the annual crossover events. With the acquisition of the X-Men film rights by Disney in 2017, both groups were once again under Marvel's control - and Marvel wasted no time in promoting Jonathan Hickman's famous X-Men series.

For the Inhumans, Marvel also released the Death of the Inhumans series, perhaps as an acknowledgement that the Inhumans were never quite as popular as the X-Men. In She-Hulk's office, perhaps Nightcrawler and Karnac have a mutual problem that requires a lawyer familiar with superhuman problems. Nevertheless, the of the Inhumans and the X-Men fighting force seem to have buried the hatchet, at least for the time being.
