Warning: Contains spoilers for X-Men: Xavier's Secret #1!!
Professor X and relationship with Scott Summers sat at the heart of it, further complicating their already fractured and complex history. Xavier considers Scott to be his son, but that doesn't absolve him of his many crimes.
X-Men: Xavier’s Secret #1 – written by Alex Paknadel, with art by Diogenes Neves – centers on journalist Sally Floyd’s investigation of Charles Xavier, who eventually gives her a personal telepathic interview. Xavier, currently known as the 'Butcher of Krakoa', let Sally know that he intentionally turned himself into a scapegoat – not just to spare mutantkind, but to save Cyclops.
Charles claims that Scott is his son "in every way that counts", and he elected to take humanity's punishment to stop Cyke's sham of a trial; as noble as his intentions often are, motivation is not absolution for Professor X’s other wrongdoings.
Professor X Considers Cyclops His "Son," But That Doesn’t Change Their Complicated Past
X-Men: Xavier’s Secret #1 – Written By Alex Paknadel; Art By Diogenes Neves; Color By Arthur Hesli; Lettering By Clayton Cowles
Charles Xavier founded the X-Men to help mutants, and what began with five young students rapidly expanded into something far greater. Despite all the good the X-Men have done over the years, X-Men became Cyclops' purpose for existing, his family, and his greatest burden.
X-Men: Xavier’s Secret #1 was originally published as X-Men: From The Ashes - Infinity Comic #6 in 2024.
Charles Xavier its that he considers Scott Summers his son, which doesn't add clarity to their history – it only muddles it further. Xavier's dream was central to Cyke's life, as it was for many mutants, and every push against it had catastrophic results. Xavier has repeatedly manipulated and lied to Scott on various occasions, even fully erasing memories of his brother, Vulcan, and Cyclops took Charles' life while he was under the influence of the Phoenix Force. Xavier's ission is yet another confusing layer, particularly after leaving Scott unaware of his intentions, while grappling with the mess it left for mutantkind.
Professor X's Sentiment About Cyclops Would Mean More If He Didn't Have A History Of Ignoring His Biological Children
Xavier Has Never Known How To Be A Father
Being considered Charles Xavier's child isn't exactly a good thing, even outside the long list of issues he shares with Cyclops. Professor X already has two biological children, and both have suffered as a result of their parentage. David Haller, otherwise known as Legion, inherited his father's powerful psychic abilities along with reality-altering powers. He's frequently mentally unstable and, as a result, has dipped into villainy on multiple occasions. At best, his relationship with his father is tense. At worst, it's riddled with betrayal, control, and harm, as Charles often assumes some part of David always remains unstable and untrustworthy.

Cyclops vs Rogue: What You Need to Know About the X-Men's New Civil War
Marvel has established that Cyclops and Rogue are at odds, meaning that an X-Men Civil War is officially underway, splitting the iconic characters.
Xandra, Empress of the Shi’ar Empire, is Xavier’s second child. Xandra was genetically created, rather than “born”, and is a fusion of Charles and Lilandra Neramani’s DNA. Both of her parents were deceased at the time of her creation, and consequently she has little to no relationship with her father, despite Charles having several later opportunities to rectify that. While Charles treats his son with mistrust, he has little connection at all to his daughter. In that regard, he has treated Scott Summers with more respect and care than he shows either of his biological children, but the bar is low.
Charles Xavier Hasn’t Made Amends For His Mistakes, And Marvel Readers Aren't Wrong To Be Skeptical That He Will
Cyclops Doesn’t Owe Him Forgiveness
in the wake of Krakoa's fall. Scott is, yet again, taking on the responsibility of ensuring the X-Men exist, and Xavier's sacrifice ensured he stayed alive to do it.
Professor X revealed that he became the X-Men franchise's "Butcher of Krakoa" to save Cyclops, his chosen son, but that won't heal their rightfully fractured relationship.
Unfortunately, being Professor X's child, whether chosen or created, comes with few benefits. Xavier has never truly taken responsibility for all the harm he's caused Scott and continues to do further damage by keeping him in the dark with many of his plans. Their push-and-pull history and complicated bond has sent ripples through mutantkind as a whole many times and shows no signs of stopping, regardless of how Charles thinks of his original protégé. Professor X revealed that he became the X-Men franchise's "Butcher of Krakoa" to save Cyclops, his chosen son, but that won't heal their rightfully fractured relationship.
