Warning: contains spoilers for Wolverine #30 aheadThe X-Men hero Wolverine believes that after weeks of mind control at the hands of the villainous Beast, he has finally gotten his revenge. But the ending to Wolverine #30 proves that Logan's slaying of Hank was the beginning of Beast's true agenda.
The former hero of the X-Men and one of Xavier's original five students at his Academy, Beast has become an increasingly more psychotic and deranged villain over the past few months, committing literal genocidal war crimes, running Marvel's newest prison in space, and also betraying, killing, and then enslaving his close friend Wolverine. In Wolverine #30 - written by Benjamin Percy with art by Juan Jose Ryp - Logan has finally been freed of Hank's control and is on a single-minded mission to murder his former friend. A mission he brutally accomplishes, in unforgettable fashion.
But before fans can even enjoy seeing the scales balanced as regards the villainous Beast, his death is revealed to be only the beginning of the new villain's horrific plans for Krakoa.
Beast's Crimes Against Wolverine Mean His Murder is Earned
Beast's murder of Wolverine was truly disgusting, with the former hero "winning" the rights to kill Logan at an underground black market auction, and seemingly enjoying every minute of his murder. To add horrific insult to injury, Sage, his X-Force teammates, and Maddie Bannister, the child of his longtime friend, human CIA operative Jeff Bannister.
As Wolverine #30 begins Logan is mad as hell, and planning on murdering Beast, before Sage stops him and reminds him that to truly take Hank down for good, they need to collect more evidence on his crimes so that he can be put away for good, or not resurrected after his death.
As Sage and Wolverine begin to follow the trails of Beast's evil activity, they quickly realize that he has somehow come into with Logan's old friend Jeff Bannister, father of Maddie, who is either helping Hank or being controlled by him. Right as they are about to get answers from Jeff, who tells them that Beast cannot be trusted and had been blackmailing him, he is murdered from a distance by Beast, who has also attempted to poison and kill the young child Maddie to prevent her from ruining his machinations.
Wolverine Only Thinks He Has Gotten The Revenge He Craves
Running after Hank Wolverine catches up with him and angrily tells him to attempt to justify his monstrous actions like he always had, and has for years, but Beast tells him he has nothing to say to him, after which Wolverine brutally runs Beast through with his claws, murdering his former friend, and believing his struggle with the monster is finally over.
However, a only-slightly-surprising twist at the end of the issue reveals that Beast has developed a secret Krakoan cloning facility on par with Mister Sinister's clone project, and a new Beast sans missing eye is reborn from the tube, promising that now the time has come, "And everything is about to change." It was revealed in Timeless #1 that a "Beast Clone Saga" was on the horizon, and it is clear that this time has finally come, although there are still so many questions to be answered, but the one thing that is known is the Wolverine's murder of his old friend Beast has solved nothing, and only escalated his war with the former X-Men hero.
