Justin Russo's two sons, Roman and Milo, haven't revealed any magical abilities yet in happened since Wizards of Waverly Place ended, including Justin's marriage to a mortal woman named Giada and the birth of his two sons. Sadly, Justin also walked away from the life of a wizard following WizTech firing him over a mysterious unicorn incident.

Wizards of Waverly Place proved that being a wizard is highly genetic, though, so it's somewhat surprising that Roman and Milo hadn't exhibited any magic powers prior to Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, even with Justin no longer practicing magic. Of course, only the first 9 episodes of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 1 have been released, and although Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 2 hasn't been confirmed yet, it could be coming. Even without the episodes or a second season, there are several reasons Milo and Roman may not have powers.

Justin's Kids Might Be Too Young To Have Their Powers In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

Wizards Of Waverly Place Revealed Powers Don't Show Up Immediately In Wizards

At the beginning of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, neither Roman nor Milo has any idea that magic is real, let alone that their dad and aunt, Alex Russo, are wizards. They quickly learn that and more when Billie, a young wizard, comes to live with them and train with Justin. Even once they uncover the truth, Roman and Milo don't exhibit natural magic powers.

In the final episode of the 9 that have been released thus far, Billie uses a power glass to temporarily transfer magic to Roman, who struggles to master a simple spell. At present, Roman seems to only have been able to do a small amount of magic because of the glass. That doesn't mean that Roman (and perhaps Milo as well) doesn't have latent powers, however. Roman and Milo may just be too young to have gotten their powers yet.

Roman and Milo may just be too young to have gotten their powers yet.

In Wizards of Waverly Place, the youngest of the three Russo siblings, Max, did not get his powers until he was about 12 years old. The precise ages of Roman and Milo have not been directly stated yet, although the cast of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place can provide a general estimate. Janice LeAnn Brown, who plays Billie, is 14 years old, as is Alkaio Thiele, who plays Roman. Max Matenko, who plays Milo, is a few years younger at 11 years old.

Max is now a billionaire in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place but is yet to reappear on the sequel show, prompting audiences to wonder where he's been.

Given Roman and Billie are around the same age, and Billie is confirmed to be 12 years old and clearly has powers, it may be that Roman has magic powers and just hasn't tapped into them yet. This would make sense considering Roman had no idea his father is a wizard or that magic is real. Milo is most likely too young to have developed his powers yet.

Justin's Kids May Not Have Gotten The Magic Gene Because They're Only 1/4 Wizards

Like Justin's Mom, Roman And Milo's Mom Is A Mortal Woman

Milo and Giada in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

Milo and Roman might simply not be wizards. Like Justin's mom, Theresa, Roman and Milo's mom, Giada, is not a wizard. This means that Roman and Milo would only be 1/4 wizard. It isn't clear how wizarding genetics work in Wizards of Waverly Place or Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, but it certainly could be the case that they don't have powers because of this. Alternatively, perhaps only one of the two brothers will develop powers.

Milo and Roman might simply not be wizards.

This seems somewhat unlikely based on the parallels between Wizards of Waverly Place and Wizards Beyond Waverly Place alone. There are a number of character replacements in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, which suggests the new Russo siblings will have powers, just as their Wizards of Waverly Place counterparts did. If that's true, their powers will likely pop up in the episodes.

Justin's Kids Will Likely Get Powers In Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 1's Ending

Milo And Roman Could Discover Their Powers In The Big Finale

David Henrie as Justin and Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place

It's clear that much more is to come in Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, in no small part because an evil hooded figure was revealed in the final moments of episode 9. Given what a major reveal Milo and Roman's powers would be, it would make sense for the show to hold off on the brothers learning they have powers until a final showdown in the season 1 finale. This is also ed by David Henrie (who plays Justin Russo) indicating that the question about their powers would be answered in season 1.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place could surprise audiences, of course, but all signs currently point to Milo and Roman having powers they just haven't uncovered yet. It would be particularly odd for the show to focus on the Russo family but not give powers to the next generation of Russos. It will be thrilling to see how this question is addressed in the remainder of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place season 1.
