When Mel Brooks’ History Of The World, Part I released in 1981, it seemed natural that a sequel would follow it - but it would take over 40 years for Brooks to lampoon more chapters in history with History Of The World, Part II. The original History Of The World, Part I featured a variety of sketches parodying various historical periods, such as the Roman Empire, the Spanish Inquisition, the French Revolution, and more. Its sequel, History Of The World, Part II, follows in its predecessor’s sketch comedy footsteps, although it appears in the form of a Hulu show rather than a movie.
Given History Of The World, Part I ends with a trailer for Part II, many Mel Brooks fans eagerly awaited a sequel to History Of The World, Part I, but as time ed, it appeared the Mel Brooks follow-up would never come. However, Hulu changed this when it announced in 2021, 40 years after the original’s debut, it was developing History Of The World, Part II, bringing truth to the adage “good things come to those who wait.” Fans may no longer have to wait for a History Of The World, Part I sequel, but they might not have anticipated the reason Part II took 40 years to premiere.
History Of The World, Part II Wasn’t Supposed To Happen
Although History Of The World, Part I ends with a teaser trailer for a Mel Brooks sequel, it wasn’t meant to signify intentions for a follow-up. While making the original movie, Brooks was not intending to make a sequel, and the phrase “Part I” in the title was a joke, according to an interview with Hulu TV show sequel at the end of History Of The World, Part I was meant to be one last gag. Despite Brooks’ initial intentions, History Of The World, Part II has now come to fruition as a Hulu original series.
Is Mel Brooks Involved With History Of The World Part 2?
Mel Brooks is a comedy legend with plenty of iconic movies under his belt, but considering the amount of time that has ed since the original History Of The World movie, many have wondered how involved he is in the sequel. Though Brooks doesn’t appear on-screen as an actor like he did in History Of The World, Part I, he is still plenty involved with History Of The World, Part II. Along with actors Nick Kroll and Wanda Sykes (among others), Brooks has a writer’s credit for the Hulu series, which explains why the sketches feel so authentic to Brooks’ original History Of The World.
In addition to contributing to History Of The World, Part II’s sketches, Mel Brooks’ presence is found most prominently in his voiceover work for the Hulu show. Whenever there is a sketch taking place during a new period in history, Mel Brooks announces the new time period, occasionally adding some additional humorous bits and observations to the announcements as well. Even though Mel Brooks is primarily behind the camera for the majority of History Of The World, Part II, his presence is still very much felt in the Hulu series, which, along with its great sketches, is part of what makes History Of The World, Part II a successful entry in the Mel Brooks canon.
