EDITOR'S NOTE: This article is for Wordle answer #491; the October 24th Wordle answer is available now.
The October 23rd Wordle answer is ready for players to solve and the game has finally started to embrace the spooky season. Today's word could get a little tricky for many players as it utilizes fewer letters than a normal daily puzzle. The word is still five letters, as is the way of Wordle, but one of them is used much more often than the others.
Before jumping right to the fully spoiled Wordle answer, here are a few hints for those players who may just need a little push in the right direction.
- Hint 1: An easy-to-throw-together Halloween costume that represents one of the old Universal Classic Monsters.
- Hint 2: Michael Reid MacKay played this undead character in the 1987 movie, The Monster Squad.
- Hint 3: A trilogy of blockbuster movies starring Brendan Fraser shares its name with today's Wordle answer.
Today's Wordle Answer (October 23rd #491)
The October 23rd Wordle answer is MUMMY.
A triple-repeated letter kept us from guessing today's answer quickly. For today's starting Wordle word we used IRATE which provided us with zero correct letters. Luckily, we always have our immediate backup when IRATE fails and our second guess was POUND. This provided a single letter 'U' in the wrong position. Assuming that there must be a secondary vowel and not a whole lot of five-letter words have a double 'U' we tried out LUCKY. This proved to be successful and gave us the correct position for 'U' and the correct spot for 'Y'.
Continuing from there we tried the word BUGGY, this didn't provide anything extra except a couple more incorrect letters. Trying to mix it up a bit more, and feeling the end-game pressure, our fifth guess was MUSHY. This provided another new letter and a little hope of being successful in today's game. With all the incorrect letter clues and the few hints we did have, there could only be two possible answers MUZZY or MUMMY. With the spooky season upon us we thankfully went with the correct answer MUMMY and scored a Wordle win-in-six just in time.
