Anticipation is building for another season of Plath family completely fall apart and be rebuilt throughout the course of six seasons, headstrong second-eldest daughter Moriah's evolution has been a main focus. We first met Moriah as a sweet 16-year-old who wanted to break free from the constraints of her strict religious upbringing.
Moriah was always framed as the family's "black sheep," the one who couldn't wait to leave their farm and chase her dreams of being a musician. Moriah was the rebel in a family of nine polite, well-behaved, sheltered kids (son Joshua Plath died after an accident in 2008). She yearned for independence and freedom, much to the consternation of her well-meaning but completely misguided parents, Barry and Kim Plath.
As the series progressed, Moriah grew into a free-spirited young woman with tattoos, wild makeup, and jet-black hair (she's tried other wild colors, too). She always wore her heart on her sleeve. She's focused on writing songs and falls in love easily. She is often heartbroken. Moriah is the heart and soul of the family, but I have a feeling she's going to be playing the villain in Welcome to Plathville season 7.
6 Moriah Took Back A Troubled Ex
Moriah Is Back With Matthew Craven
Moriah's relationships have always been part of Welcome to Plathville. Despite coming from a strict religious upbringing, I think Moriah was nursing another heartbreak, but she was less open about the details with her concerned family. This might have been an attempt to hide the facts about what was going on behind-the-scenes in her relationship.
Audiences didn't even know who Moriah was dating, but we soon found out it was cracks in her relationship with the Plath family.
It can be so hard for a family to watch a relative constantly go back to a difficult partner. Moriah's decision to stay with Matthew, despite the disrespect, is her own choice. Possibly, no amount of pleading with her family will change that.
5 Moriah Turned Her Instagram Comments Off
Moriah's Social Media Presence Is Telling
Moriah popped back up, posting a pic of herself in a car, her black hair in curls, with a slight smile on her face. The caption was equally mysterious, with a black heart and key emoji. What it means is anyone's guess, but I have a feeling it's related to her relationship with Matthew.
Moriah often uses the black heart emoji in comments and posts. What could be even more telling is the fact that Moriah turned off the comments. This usually implies the poster doesn't want to read the comments of others for various reasons. In Moriah's case, it could be the fact that people will comment on her relationship status. Maybe Moriah doesn't want to hear it.
If Moriah's shutting off comments on photos, it's because she thinks she knows what's best. She doesn't want to see comments, good or bad, from followers. Moriah knows that her relationship with Matthew is controversial, and shutting off comments won't change that, but it will spare her from seeing any unkind comments. For what it's worth, Moriah kept comments on for subsequent posts.
4 Moriah Has Moved Away From The Family
Moriah Announced A Move To Montana
While the Plath family is no longer living at their farm in Georgia (they are spread around the country), Moriah announced she'd moved to Montana. Moriah's move, which she first announced in January, is telling. First off, it's unclear who she moved with. In a previous post, she said the move was a new adventure for her and her dog, Blackjack. However, that doesn't mean she moved alone.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now
Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.
In her post, which she also used to announce her new song, "Proud of You," which fans can now listen to, she tagged various music collaborators. She did not tag Matthew, but he could still be involved in her move. This might mean she knows people don't accept her relationship, so she's keeping it private.
We made it! About 40 hours of driving across 11 states, from GA to MT! It sure was long but beautiful and so worth it! Funny story, in the craziness of moving I forgot I had set the release date for my song ‘Proud of you’ to come out today (January 31st) I had no idea what day I’d actually make it out here since January isn’t the ideal month to move across the country lol! Ended up getting snowed in in south GA of all places! Then I stayed in MN for a few extra days with family and watching the weather. Late last night I’m driving and about 15 minutes from my destination and my sister Amber calls to tell me she’s listening to ‘Proud of You’. I was like isn’t that wonderful. as I’m pulling into this town in Montana that I’ve been working towards moving to for a while, ‘Proud of You’ was released… All that to say I made it! And Proud of You is finally out! Much love!
3 Moriah Struggles With Her Emotions
Moriah Has Highs And Lows
Like most teenagers, Moriah weathered some emotional storms throughout the first few seasons of Welcome to Plathville. She fought with her parents and struggled to find her own identity within the family.
Though she was labeled a rebel, Moriah is a sensitive soul, and she feels deeply, whether good or bad.
Moriah went through her first heartbreak on camera with boyfriend Max Kallschmidt, which was heavy, to say the least. Moriah was so devastated by Max cheating on her, she isolated herself from her family, at first refusing to say what Max had done that led to their split. It seemed like Moriah felt like saying it out loud would make it more real, and she was still struggling to process it herself.
Moriah channeled her emotions into her music, writing searing songs that reflected her pain. She refused to give Max another chance, despite his pleading, and audiences rooted for Moriah to move on from Max. She did - however, she ended up in a more difficult dynamic with Matthew, and this time, she gives him more chances.
2 Moriah May Be Jealous Of Lydia’s Marriage
Moriah's Younger Sister Found Love
The Plath family had reason to celebrate recently, as Moriah's younger sister, 20-year-old Lydia Plath, married her boyfriend, Zac Wyse. Lydia and Zac's relationship moved at lightning speed, as Lydia hard-launched Zac in November. The two were engaged by December. Their wedding took place in February, and Moriah was there to her sister on her big day.

I Just Rewatched Welcome To Plathville & Now I'm Fully Convinced Ethan Plath's To Blame For The Divorce
I just rewatched all of Welcome To Plathville and I'm fully convinced that Ethan Plath is the sole person to blame for his divorce from Olivia Plath.
Moriah shared photos from the celebration, saying how happy she was for them in her caption. However, the look on Moriah's face tells me a different story. She is smiling, but her smile looks a little strained and her eyes look sad. It can't be easy for Moriah to have her younger sister marry someone who is so welcomed by her family, when her own relationship isn't accepted by her relatives. Moriah will always Lydia, but that doesn't mean she isn't a little jealous of the wedding and the way the family received Zac into the family.
1 Moriah’s Music Reflects Her Moods
Moriah Puts Her Heart And Soul Into Her Songs
Moriah might hide her emotions from those close to her. However, there's no hiding the emotion in her music. Listening to the lyrics from a song she released in November called "Redemption," it's obvious Moriah is still processing her pain.
"She had a smile that brightened the dark days, she dried the tears before they saw her face."
"Never let the world change her heart and get the best of her. Now her past is catching up to her. Now she don't know how to live with some of her bad decisions. Broken at an all-time low, it changed her, the girl you used to know."
I feel for Moriah, because while she's processing her feelings through song, she needs to be open with those close to her in order to truly grow. If Moriah prefers to be alone, rather than spending a lot of time with family, it may be detrimental. Without participating in the family as much, Moriah could easily become season 7's villain.
Welcome to Plathville seasons 1-6 are available to stream on Discovery+ and various other streaming platforms.
