One new cast member and character in Netflix's recent Wednesday clip.
Wednesday season 2 already seems set to expand on the first season in every way. Wednesday will likely find herself solving an even bigger crime, and the trailer has shown that the Addams family will play a bigger role than ever. The new season will see Pugsley Wednesday at Nevermore, and promises that both Morticia and Gomez Addams will be seen around school more, too. However, one Addams Family member is ing the ranks this season sounds even more exciting.
Joanna Lumley's Grandmama Is Already My Favorite New Character In Wednesday Season 2
The Head Of The Addams Family Already Seems Fabulous
I am already most excited to see Joanna Lumley Wednesday season 2's cast as Grandmama. Netflix's character description for the new version of the character lists Hester Frump as "the fabulously wealthy mogul behind Frump mortuaries...immaculately coiffed, emotionally cold, and armed with a razor-sharp tongue." This marks a stark departure from previous versions of Grandmama or Hester Frump (who have at different points been two separate Addams Family characters).
Past iterations of Grandmama Frump have been far less put together, with unkempt hair and more old-fashioned clothes. Joanna Lumley's version of Hester Frump looks set to be a far more stylish and modern version of the character, someone that Wednesday can riff off of perfectly. To this point, Netflix's description makes it clear that "Grandmama is probably Wednesday's favorite person" and that both may be at odds with Morticia throughout Wednesday season 2, creating a very fun new family dynamic for the series to explore.
Grandmama Is Set To Be A Major Scene-Stealer In Wednesday Season 2
Joanna Lumley Has Always Been Great
Grandmama's character description already makes Hester Frump sound like a highly entertaining character, but knowing that the Addams Family matriarch will be played by Joanna Lumley makes it even more promising. Grandmama will certainly be dramatic and commanding, and she will likely disturb any sense of tentative peace between Morticia and Wednesday, given that Wednesday seems to look up to her. Joanna Lumley will be able to play this off both very dramatically and very humorously when necessary.

Wednesday Season 2 Finally Explains A Long-Standing Mystery About The Addams Family's Wealth
Netflix has shared more information about one of Wednesday season 2's newest characters, and it solves the old mystery of the Addams family's wealth.
This feels especially true when considering some of Joanna Lumley's past roles, as the actor has always been exceptional in both comedy and drama roles. Lumley is known for her role as Patsy Stone in the comedy series Absolutely Fabulous. She has also appeared in films such as Trail of the Pink Panther, Ella Enchanted, The Wolf of Wall Street, and has worked with Tim Burton (who serves as an executive producer for Wednesday) on 2005's Corpse Bride. Lumley is the perfect choice for a more refined but still very dramatic Grandmama.
The Showrunners Already Teased Grandmama's Return In Wednesday Season 3
The Show's Creators Have A Plan For Future Seasons
Even (or perhaps especially) Wednesday's creators, Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, are aware of just how well Joanna Lumley's Grandmama Frump fits into Wednesday season 2. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Millar and Gough teased some exciting details from Wednesday's sophomore season, including information about Grandmama. Millar shared: "She's a whole different flavor of Addams that brings such delicious fun to the show," highlighting the chaos and drama the character is likely to add to the family dynamic.
Millar also stated that they weren't "sure how many episodes that character should be in, but seeing how well it played, I think Grandmama will definitely be coming back if we get a season 3." While there have not been any concrete announcements about Wednesday season 3 yet, the series is one of Netflix's most-watched shows of all time, so it seems like a shoo-in for renewal. Wednesday season 3's fate may not be resolved quite yet, but either way, I am looking forward to seeing Joanna Lumley's take on the iconic Addams Family character.
