Developer Naughty Dog has announced that, as of today, PlayStation's various mobile endeavors, Uncharted: Fortune Hunter launched on Android devices just days ahead of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End's May 2016 release. PlayStation Mobile Inc. produced the companion puzzle title in conjunction with Naughty Dog, offering an experience that allowed players to unlock special rewards for Uncharted 4's multiplayer suite.
Fortune Hunter counts among the lesser-known Uncharted spinoffs that never made it to home consoles. In this case, it follows in the footsteps of 2012's Fight for Fortune, a collectible card game for PS Vita developed by Syphon Filter and Days Gone creator SIE Bend Studio. The Days Gone crew also helmed another little-known Nathan Drake-starring adventure - PS Vita's Uncharted: Golden Abyss. But Fortune Hunter long remaining stranded on non-PlayStation-branded mobile platforms is what effectively ensured most fans would never hear of its existence before its time had come and gone.
In a post on its official Twitter page, franchise creator Naughty Dog has confirmed that mobile game Uncharted: Fortune Hunter is shutting down today, March 29. As a result, Android and iOS s can no longer the action-puzzle experience from Google Play or the App Store. Sony also disabled in-game purchases for Bags of Orbs and Treasure Maps. Fortunately, Naughty Dog noted s who already have access to Fortune Hunter can still play offline until it's removed from their devices. The Twitter post in question reads as follows:
As mentioned previously, Fortune Hunter has remained online since the days leading up to Uncharted 4's original release in May 2016. That it is only now going offline will no doubt surprise most, especially since the Twitter thread suggests that even the most ionate of Uncharted fans were not aware of the mobile game's existence ahead of today.
While Uncharted: Fortune Hunter has taken its last gasp, the series itself continues to grab the attention of new audiences, courtesy of the Tom Holland-starring film and Sony's recent release of the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PS5. The latter packs in upgraded versions of Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy for the price of $50. While the collection was announced for both PS5 and PC, Sony has yet to share concrete details about the PC version, though it, apparently, remains on track for a 2022 rollout. With talks of a potential new Uncharted game popping up every so often, it stands to reason we haven't seen the last of the Drake family's swashbuckling adventures in the interactive medium.
