Warning: Contains SPOILERS for The Ultimate #10! the Human Torch, and Namor the Sub-Mariner. And now, Marvel is reinventing one of those heroes in the Ultimate Universe, possibly changing Captain America lore within the all-new continuity.

In Marvel Comics’ solicitation for The Ultimates #10 by Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri, fans are given a first-look at the main cover art for the issue (by artist Dike Ruan), as well as the comic’s official synopsis, where it’s revealed that another classic Marvel Comics character is on his way to making his Ultimate Universe debut: Namor the Sub-Mariner.

NAMOR AND THE RED SKULL! Captain America and the Human Torch lead a team to recruit their old comrade — Namor! But they’ll have to get through the Red Skull Gang first!

As the solicitation reveals, Captain America and the Human Torch of the Ultimates are going on a mission that could potentially benefit the team - and, by extension, the entire world. Captain America and Human Torch are trying to recruit Namor, hopeful that the Sub-Mariner will them because of their shared history. However, as both the synopsis and cover art show, the two Ultimates are going to have to fight through a horde of Red Skull’s followers before they can get to Namor - which calls into question Namor’s true allegiances in the Ultimate Universe.

The Ultimate Universe Teases Namor is Working WITH Red Skull

The synopsis opens with “Namor and the Red Skull” before explaining that the Human Torch and Captain America have to battle Red Skull’s goons before getting to Namor. This could mean that Red Skull has captured Namor, and it’s up to the Ultimates to free him - and hopefully recruit him. However, there is another possibility that would change-up Captain America lore dramatically: Namor is working with the Red Skull.

So far in the new Ultimate Universe, very little is known about each individual character. In Earth-616, there are decades of lore to look at when trying to understand a character’s true motives during any given situation, but in Earth-6160, that’s not the case. In fact, it’s safe to assume that any character fans haven’t met yet is evil, as the Maker went out of his way to corrupt as many heroes as he could before taking over the world. Could Namor be one of them?

The Ultimate Universe Could Twist Namor & Captain America’s Original Relationship

Namor and Captain America were of the Invaders During WWII

In the original Marvel Comics universe of Earth-616, Namor and Captain America fought side-by-side as of the Invaders, battling the Nazis as well as Red Skull’s Hydra. This seems to also be the case in the Ultimate Universe of Earth-6160, but with a potentially mind-blowing twist. Perhaps Namor was corrupted by the Maker and was a double-agent that was secretly aligned with Red Skull. Namor does famously hate humanity, and has said that he wants to conquer humans in the name of Atlantis, so partnering with a villain hellbent on global domination wouldn’t be too out of character.

Captain America just got a major redesign thanks to a group of villains about to make their MCU debut, and now I'm excited to see them in live-action.

Namor the Sub-Mariner might have been one of Marvel Comics’ original heroes right alongside Captain America and the Human Torch, but he has certainly been shown in a villainous light more than once. And now, it may come out that Namor was never a hero at all in the Ultimate Universe, but rather a secret ally to Red Skull, which would be a major change to Captain America lore.

The Ultimate #10 by Marvel Comics is available March 5, 2025.

Initially debuting in 1940, Captain America is the patriotically themed superhero who has shared the title with only a few individuals. Beginning with Steve Rogers, Captain America's birth resulted from a frail man taking part in an experimental U.S. Army super-soldier trial, which imbued him with super-human abilities. The character is often depicted wielding a nigh unbreakable and aerodynamic shield made of vibranium that they use to defend and attack their foes.
