The Show Was Acquired By Streaming Platform Mubi

Every Episode Will Be Available To Subscribers

Per Deadline, streaming platform Mubi has acquired the rights to both the iconic 1990 Twin Peaks, which ran two seasons and 30 episodes, as well as the 18-episode 2017 follow-up, Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series. The news comes amid the celebration of the original show's 35th anniversary, and three months since Lynch's ing. The show will drop on June 13, giving Mubi subscribers access to all 48 episodes. It is unclear whether the platform will also acquire the rights to the Twin Peaks movie, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

It is a great chance for Mubi to attract more viewers, as well as being part of helping to maintain the legacy of Lynch's work.

After an intriguing two-season mystery, Twin Peaks was unexpectedly cancelled in 1991, following one of the biggest cliffhangers in TV history, with many fearing the story would never conclude. Season 3 gave the series closure, wrapping up Laura Palmer's case, and Dale Cooper's story, in a satisfying and fitting way. Given Lynch's ing and the conclusion of season 3, it seems very unlikely that Twin Peaks season 4 will happen.

The move represents a huge coup for Mubi and makes perfect sense considering the platform's preference for world cinema and arthouse titles, which fit well with Lynch's offbeat filmmaking approach. The inclusion of the follow-up season, one of the greatest TV revivals ever, means that the Twin Peaks story gets its full closure after the season 2 cliffhanger, and lets subscribers enjoy the show as one of Lynch's most impressive pieces of complete art.
