Summary
- Tracker star Justin Hartley claimed that Colter Shaw isn't ready for a relationship due to his job.
- Colter and Reenie have chemistry, but it may take a while for them to get together.
- Despite Colter's single status, future seasons may see him open up to romance.
It seems as though Justin Hartley's Colter Shaw doesn't have much time for romance in Tracker, and while I would love to see the protagonist start dating one character in particular, it makes sense why they can't be together (yet). The CBS action drama TV series, created by Ben H. Winters, is based on Jeffery Deaver's 2019 book The Never Game (which was followed by three more novels). Tracker centers around Colter, a survivalist and (as the show's name suggests) tracker who travels around the country, picking up jobs from law enforcement or private citizens to find missing people.
Tracker had an outstanding first season on CBS — the action drama became the network's most watched show in its freshman season, dethroning NCIS, which has been on the air for more than 20 years.
Aside from Hartley, Tracker season 1's 13 episodes, the characters frequently worked together to assist Colter in his various jobs. But in between all the work, sparks flew between Colter and Reenie, who have a romantic past as they slept together once. Nevertheless, we might be waiting a long time for Colter and Reenie to get together in the CBS action drama series.
Justin Hartley Is Right About A Colter & Reenie Romance In Tracker Season 2
Colter Isn't Ready For A Relationship
During Tracker's at San Diego Comic Con 2024, star and executive producer Justin Hartley addressed the possibility of Colter and Reenie acting on their obvious feelings for one another anytime soon. Unfortunately, the actor wasn't too optimistic about the couple's chances. Per People, Hartley said:
"I think all of the things about [Colter] that are heroic and brave become reckless and selfish [if he and Reenie become a couple]. It's like, I'm going to leave my house and go through all this stuff and put myself in danger, and you're back here worried about me. I just don't think that's a good look."
It seems as though Hartley is determined to have Colter remain single for the time being. Even though the romantic in me (and someone who is rooting for Colter and Reenie) finds that frustrating, it ultimately makes sense for his character. Colter is a lone-wolf whose job keeps him occupied almost 24/7. As Hartley said, his time spent traveling and on the road wouldn't be fair to his partner. Plus, Colter isn't exactly a character whose heart is the most open to love. So, when Tracker season 2 releases, viewers should expect Colter to be (and stay) single.

Why I've Been Waiting For Colter & Reenie To Get Together
Colter & Reenie Have A Lot Of Chemistry In Tracker
Reenie, a lawyer who frequently helps Colter get out of sticky situations, was seemingly introduced during the Tracker pilot episode to be Colter's love interest. There was easy, humorous banter between the two characters. Plus, they have a romantic past — Colter and Reenie previously slept together, but Colter left for a job before Reenie woke up, which understandably frustrated her. Colter's actions prove Justin Hartley's thoughts about his character remaining single, but, one can't help but root for Colter and Reenie.
Tracker has only released 13 episodes, though, so, there is still a lot of time for progress to be made in Colter and Reenie's relationship.
So, it appeared as if the writers were laying the groundwork for Colter and Reenie to eventually get together in the CBS action drama TV series. Consequently, I have been waiting for something to happen between the two characters. Tracker has only released 13 episodes, though, so, there is still a lot of time for progress to be made in Colter and Reenie's relationship. But it might be a while as they likely won't get together in Tracker season 2 after the season 1 finale and Hartley's comments.

I’m Officially Convinced Jensen Ackles’ Russell Shaw Is Innocent In Tracker For This Key Reason
One key detail from Tracker season 1 has me convinced that Russell Shaw, portrayed by Jensen Ackles, is innocent of killing their father, Ashton Shaw.
The Tracker Star's Comments Don't Rule Out A Relationship In Later Seasons
Colter & Reenie Could Have A Slow-Burn Relationship
Even though Justin Hartley made it clear that Colter would be single for the foreseeable future, that doesn't mean he won't ever find someone (like Reenie) that he wants to be with romantically. A major component of all TV shows is character development, especially concerning protagonists, and Colter shouldn't be any different. Colter will likely continue to grow as the episodes and seasons go on, preparing him for a potential long-term relationship. Perhaps Colter and Reenie won't get together when Tracker season 2 premieres, but the possibility of a romance between the two remains.

Tracker follows lone-wolf survivalist Colter Shaw as he navigates the country as a reward seeker. Utilizing his expert tracking skills, he aids private citizens and law enforcement in solving various mysteries while grappling with issues from his fractured family.
