brutal events of Avengers: Endgame. With Thanos now defeated and Asgard relocated to Earth, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) searches for a new purpose in his life. However, with Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) on a mission to wipe out all gods, Thor must reunite with his best friend Korg (Waititi), the Guardians of the Galaxy, his former love interest Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as the Mighty Thor, and the Asgardian warrior King Valkyrie (Thompson).

After the destruction of their home world of Asgard and the death of many of their people when their spaceship was attacked by Thanos, the remaining population settled in the village of Tønsberg in Norway and renamed it New Asgard. Thor was their rightful ruler, but due the god's depression following the defeat he suffered against Thanos, he ed the reins to Valkyrie, who has been running day-to-day operations to keep her people thriving. Although she cares for the town, according to Thompson, Valkyrie misses the battlefield and finds herself bored with the bureaucratic aspects of leadership. In January, prior to the release of any Thor: Love and Thunder trailers, a selfie of Thompson dressed in Valkyrie's new armor was posted on Instagram in an apparent leak.

Now, in an interview with Valkyrie costume image leak and apologizes to Marvel for the breach of trust. The actor its she had taken the photo and sent it to her stepmother, who then posted it on Instagram. Thompson apologizes for her actions and vows to never send another selfie again. Read what the actor has to say below:

I sent a picture to my stepmom and she posted it on Instagram. Yeah, [it] wasn’t me and it’s a big thing. She feels terrible. I’m so sorry, Marvel. I’m so sorry, Disney. It’s not my fault. I will never – I’m never gonna send selfies again.

Thompson clearly regrets sending the selfie to her stepmother, as she now understands the deliberate and complex nature of marketing for the MCU. The studio carefully plans out the release of their promotional materials to maximize the amount of hype for their next project. Thompson's selfie and its subsequent release to the public compromised that planned marketing scheme, as well as breached trust with Marvel Studios.

The writers, actors, and crew of MCU projects must sign an NDA to protect the secrecy of their films and television shows to maintain the integrity of the franchise. Marvel Studios is known to take their trust very seriously, but there have been times when actors have inadvertently revealed vital details from a project well before its release. Mark Ruffalo, for example, revealed the ending of Avengers: Infinity War at a press junket, and also accidentally live-streamed Thor: Ragnarok scene audio during a private screening. That last gaffe ended up working in Marvel's favor by creating a storm of press, and although the reveal of Valkyrie's new armor in Thor: Love and Thunder may have ruffled a few feathers behind the scenes, it similarly stoked fans' desire to get their first look at the new movie.
