Amazon Prime's acclaimed book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and a smash-hit season of television that was widely acclaimed by critics and audiences. With such enjoyable characters, a terrific cast, and a vibrant period atmosphere, it's a bummer to many that the show is being kept as a miniseries.
Dramas about making rock music are challenging to come by, especially those set in a period setting that capture such a nostalgic aesthetic (for all its beauty and all its flaws). Daisy Jones & the Six is an extraordinary time capsule of one of the most prolific musical periods of the past century. Even though Daisy Jones is centered around a fictional band, it manages to fully embrace that history. The series was a rare gem, but Prime might have a replacement coming around the corner in The Runarounds.

The Runarounds Is A Music-Focused Teen Drama
Variety recently provided a first look at Prime Video's The Runarounds, created by Outer Banks co-creator Jonas Pate. The series, which is headlined by Brooklyn Decker, will premiere with eight episodes this fall. This series is set to follow a younger group of characters than Daisy Jones & the Six, so it might have a similar feeling to the earlier episodes of the show, when Billy and his brother were just starting out. The description, which can be read below, still sounds like it will cover similar ground.
"The Runarounds follows a group of recent high school graduates in Wilmington, North Carolina, who come together to form a rock band the summer after graduating high school. United by their love of music and shared ion to chase stardom, the band throws themselves into the pursuit of achieving their dreams, all while falling in love and getting into trouble over the course of one summer. The series will feature an original soundtrack by the eponymous band, which was formed in 2022. "
Though there's no trailer currently available, audiences can expect one soon as the release date isn't far off. The original soundtrack might also appeal to those who loved Daisy Jones & the Six's Aurora, and songs like "Regret Me." If Outer Banks is anything to go by, The Runarounds will probably lean closer to YA, but it should also be entertaining and have enjoyable performances in its own right.

Daisy Jones Already Showed Us The Main Characters' Futures
I can understand the appeal of wanting more of something great, especially for a series like that, which highlights an era and aesthetic that's shockingly rare in film and television. However, I'm doubtful we'll ever see Daisy Jones & the Six season 2, and that's probably a good thing. By principle, authors write endings to their books for a reason. That's not to say that Daisy Jones season 2 would be bad, but rather that we've already seen the conclusion that was written for those characters, and it would be challenging to expand on that candidly.

Prime Video has a number of fantastic original series, and fortunately, some of them are short enough to watch over the course of just one weekend.
Continuing to expand on a miniseries that's based on a singular novel with future seasons arguably damaged the legacy of Big Little Lies, which might otherwise have gone down as one of HBO's greatest miniseries. That's just one example, but I wouldn't want to see Daisy Jones suffer from a similar outcome. Not to mention, the show's ending already saw Billy and Daisy reuniting in a flash-forward, so it would be challenging to find a meaningful story to place in between that wouldn't just be retreading old material.

Prime Video Has Several Teen Drama YA Shows
Shows like The Summer I Turned Pretty, One of Us Is Lying, The Wilds, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and more have embellished Prime Video's television library with an enjoyable collection of teen dramas. While they all have their YA appeal, these shows also deserve credit where it's due for assembling talented casts and telling compelling stories. The Runarounds could fulfill either the desire for more musical dramas like Daisy Jones & the Six or YA shows like those previously mentioned.
