  • Edge of Tomorrow 2 may provide Blunt with a much-deserved return as an action star.

The Fall Guy marks Emily Blunt’s return to the action genre, which only makes anticipation for a long-awaited action sequel even bigger. Emily Blunt has taken part in movies of various genres throughout her career as an actress, but she’s mostly known for her work in comedies and rom-coms. Blunt is currently enjoying a great streak that has brought a lot of praise from critics and even an Academy Award nomination, and the streak continues with The Fall Guy. Directed by David Leitch, The Fall Guy is an action-comedy movie loosely based on the 1980s TV series of the same name.

The Fall Guy follows Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling), a Hollywood stunt performer and stunt double for famous action star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Colt retires after a stunt gone wrong that broke his back but returns over a year later when producer Gail Meyer (Hannah Waddingham) needs him to find Ryder before the movie they’re working on is canceled. To further complicate it, the director of the movie is Jody Moreno (Blunt), Colt’s ex-girlfriend whom he left after his accident. Despite being a main character, Jody doesn’t take part in the action, which makes the anticipation for another action movie starring Blunt even bigger.

Emily Blunt Only Gets 2 Action Scenes In The Fall Guy

Emily Blunt Was Mostly Kept Out Of Action Scenes In The Fall Guy

Emily Blunt aims a weapon at someone offscreen in The Fall Guy movie

Blunt is mostly left out of the action scenes of The Fall Guy except for two, but she is at the front and center of some of the movie’s best and funniest moments.

At the beginning of The Fall Guy, Jody is a camerawoman, which is how she met Colt and why they got together, as they worked on different movies together. The movie Ryder was starring in when he disappeared, Metalstorm, was Jody’s directorial debut, which Gail used to blackmail Colt and bring him in as a stunt performer while also doing his best to find Ryder. Because of this, Blunt is mostly left out of the action scenes of The Fall Guy except for two, but she is at the front and center of some of the movie’s best and funniest moments.

After Colt’s supposed death after a boat chase while escaping from Ryder’s henchmen, he sneaked onto the set of Metalstorm dressed as an alien. Colt entered Jody’s trailer and approached her from behind, with Jody fighting him as she thought she was being attacked by a stranger. The second action moment Blunt got in The Fall Guy was in the final fight between Ryder, his men, and Colt and Metalstorm’s team of stunt performers and more.

It's disappointing that Jody didn’t get more than two action scenes in The Fall Guy, especially given Blunt’s background in the action genre.

Jody was taken by one of Ryder’s henchmen, whom she briefly fought. Although she wasn’t a stunt performer like Colt, it was still disappointing that Jody didn’t get more than two action scenes in The Fall Guy, especially given Blunt’s background in the action genre, particularly in the 2014 movie Edge of Tomorrow.

A sequel to Edge of Tomorrow has been in development since 2016.

One of Emily Blunt’s most notable action projects is Edge of Tomorrow. Directed by Doug Liman and loosely based on the Japanese novel All You Need Is Kill, by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, Edge of Tomorrow starred Tom Cruise as Major William Cage, who is forced to a landing operation against an alien race. Cage soon finds himself in a time loop, during which he meets Sgt. Rita Vrataski (Blunt), whom he saves and trains with over and over again. A sequel to Edge of Tomorrow has been in development since 2016, but it has come across various obstacles that have kept it from happening.

However, Cruise reportedly meeting with Warner’s co-chairpeople to discuss plans for it. Edge of Tomorrow 2 can be the full-on return to the action genre that Emily Blunt deserves, especially after The Fall Guy only gave her two brief action scenes.
