Daniels has directed a multitude of films throughout his career, becoming best known for his 2009 movie Precious, which was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director. His movie for Netflix will be his first time directing a horror feature.

Now, Netflix has released a new trailer for The Deliverance, showcasing Daniels' take on an exorcism story and what to expect from the film.

The trailer purports the movie to be inspired by a true story, teasing a terrifying premise as a mother hires someone to perform an exorcism on her young son. Everything To Expect From Lee Daniels' The Deliverance

Exorcist performing an exorcism in The Deliverance

Daniels is no stranger to working on horror movies, having been an executive producer on 2023's The Reading. While the movie received lukewarm reviews, lead actor Mo'Nique was praised considerably. The stellar attributes of her performance will likely translate to The Deliverance, where she will portray a social worker helping in the movie's exorcisms. The topic of the film itself also seems popular as of late, with Russell Crowe's The Exorcism being a notable release from June.

The trailer is already teasing at least one scary exorcism scene involving the main character, Ebony, watching a demon try to take over her child. While the premise alone makes for plenty of frightening scares ahead, the presentation is also telling of some unexpected ways in which the movie will terrify. While scenes of demonic possession are familiar, it appears this demon is jumping from person to person. Such a chaotic notion means the entity might not be easily stopped, perhaps holding a deeper meaning because of its powers as well.
