The Boys star Antony Starr recently responded to fans idolizing Homelander, exclaiming, "You are missing the point." Based on the popular Garth Ennis comic book series of the same name, Prime Video's acclaimed television adaptation centers on the titular team of vigilantes who serve as watchdogs for the world's expansive groups of superpowered individuals. Starr portrays the villain Homelander, the leader of the Seven, a Justice League-style team of the most powerful so-called superheroes. The narcissist sociopath speaks to his fans through overt patriotic rhetoric, bearing a similarity to current political figures. As a result, portions of The Boys' fanbase have become attached to Homelander, resulting in Starr speaking out in protest.
Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Starr responded to fans who have idolized The Boys' central antagonist Homelander. Read what the actor said below:
“There’s a very strange thing that’s happened with the character, though he is clearly not a good guy. A lot of people have glommed onto him. There’s a weird element out there that actually kind of idolize him. I’ve seen some s— on Twitter and I’m like, ‘Wait, What? You are missing the point entirely!’ ”
What's Next For Homelander In The Boys Season 4
The Boys season 3 saw much of what Vought International built threatened by Homelander's selfish actions. His hunger for power and unpredictability leads to Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and The Boys nearly successfully attempting to take him down with the help of Solider Boy, a pseudo-Captain America that can de-power superpowered individuals. However, the plan backfires, resulting in Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) losing her powers while Billy is terminally ill due to the use of the V24 compound. Season 3 concluded with Homelander publicly killing a protester who attacked his son Ryan much to the approval of the crowd.
Homelander's unflinching will only embolden the Seven leader as he attempts to gain more power. A recent video from the Vought International Twitter has Colby Minifie return as Homelander's puppet CEO Ashley Barrett to defend the villain's killing of the protestor. The Boys season 4 clip teases an trial for Homelander, framing him as a heroic father while blaming Starlight for the tragic death.
A possible trial in The Boys season 4 provides the series an excellent opportunity to challenge Homelander as he must defend his actions in a court of law. Instead of complete adulation from his ers, Homelander will face harsh public legal criticism that may result in several of his past vicious actions being brought to light. With The Boys season 4 premiere date pending, audiences must be patient to see how Homelander manages to weasel his way out of a murder conviction.
