The anime adaptation of The Beginning After The End manhwa has been something that has been anticipated for a very long time. Unfortunately, the excitement and hype has disappeared in just 2 episodes, leaving fans to wonder what exactly happened. Now, in a new interview published by Crunchyroll, series creator Turtleme may have revealed the core problem at the heart of The Beginning After The End's anime adaptation.

As one of Spring 2025's most anticipated anime, The Beginning After The End has been a major new release that caught the eye of many for good and bad reasons. While the trailers and promotional videos disappointed many with lackluster animation, there was still hope that the finished product would be better. Unfortunately, now that the first few episodes are out, fan reception has been icy. While it is easy to blame the animation studio behind the adaptation, it seems that series creator Turtleme was the one who chose the studio to bring the manhwa to life, according to a Crunchyroll interview.

The Beginning After The End's Anime Studio Was Specifically Chosen By The Series' Creator

The studio in charge of animating The Beginning After The End is Studio A-Cat, a relatively small studio that doesn't have a very extensive catalogue. It is the studio's size that Turtleme was interested in, according to his interview, as he believes that a bigger studio adapting the manhwa could lead to a lack of attention for the series, and he even rejected one when approached. While he certainly does have a point, a smaller studio poses an even greater risk, and it hasn't been more evident than here.

Studio A-Cat's portfolio of anime is not popular or well known, and none of their anime has a rating higher than 6.5 on MyAnimeList. While they certainly have experience with animating isekai, some have questioned the quality of their work. The studio might dedicate more attention to such a large project, but the barrier of a small pool of talent and budget means there is only so much that can be done. Episode #1 was met with disappointment, but the second one is where the frustration of fans truly boiled over, with some clips going viral for all the wrong reasons, with one even garnering more than 10 million views.

TBATE Could've Been Handled Better By A Bigger Studio

The Anime Might've Looked A Lot Better

Between the constant Mushoku Tensei comparisons, the lack of buzz in the community outside the negative press, and the stiff animation, The Beginning After The End might have been better suited for a larger studio. Although there are definitely some redeeming qualities about the anime, such as the art direction and the soundtrack choices, there is still a lot left to be desired about how the project was handled.
