The first official clip of The Apprentice gives audiences a better look at Sebastian Stan's take on former United States President Donald J. Trump. Directed by The Last of Us' Ali Abbasi and written by journalist Gabriel Sherman, the film is set decades before Trump became the 45th president and focuses on his early real estate career. At that time, Trump developed a friendship with prosecutor Roy Cohn, portrayed in the movie by Succession's Jeremy Strong.
As the movie is gearing up for its October 11th release, Briarcliff Entertainment released its first official clip on X. Check it out below:
The clip reveals what Stan's Trump will sound like in his early days while also teasing Jeremy Strong's Roy Cohn as the businessman talks with a journalist on the phone and learns showmanship skills that will eventually come to define him.
The Apprentice Is Already One of the Most Talked About Films of the Year
The Trump Campaign Attempted To Stop The Release Of The Movie
With a pre-election theatrical release date now set for The Apprentice, the film is already one of the most talked about productions of the year. The movie has already received somewhat favorable reviews from its premieres at the Cannes and Telluride Film Festivals. Even if its reception has been somewhat mixed, with some critics calling it a superficial exploration of Trump's early days, Stan and Strong's portrayal of both Trump and Cohn have received the most praise.
However, The Apprentice has already become a controversial film, with Donald Trump's presidential campaign threatening legal action against the movie over a rape scene involving Trump's first wife, Ivana. The Trump campaign also attempted to block the United States release of the movie by sending a cease & desist letter to the filmmakers to prevent all "marketing, distribution, and publication of the movie." In it, the campaign stated that the movie repeatedly defames Trump and "constitutes direct foreign interference in America's elections."
Donald Trump's extended family will also be depicted in The Apprentice, with Martin Donovan and Charlie Carrick set to play Trump's father and brother, Fred, and Fred Jr.
However, the Trump campaign has seemingly backed away from pursuing any legal action over the movie, as Briarcliff Entertainment recently acquired the movie and is planning to release it before the next U.S. election. All of this gives The Apprentice free publicity and makes the movie far more exciting than it would've been without it. The discussion on it will be much larger when it eventually reaches the public on October 11.
