Of all the major players in the DC universe, Batman has enjoyed the most cross-platform domination in recent years. In addition to his current run of comics by Tom King and Scott Snyder, Batman has also become something of a centerpiece for the DC Extended Universe, with a starring role in The Lego Batman Movie.
Then there are the video games. Having been the star of the hugely popular Arkham open-world action franchise, Batman is also gearing up to battle his fellow superheroes in fighting game sequel Injustice 2. But for those who are interested in the man behind the mask, the main title worth checking out right now is Batman - The Telltale Series.
A narrative-driven game based around Bruce Wayne's role in Harvey Dent's mayoral campaign, Telltale's Batman uses a mix of point-and-click gameplay, dialogue choices, and quick-time events to blend Batman's action-packed antics in with a sobering character study of Bruce, driven by the player's own decisions about how to respond to mounting pressures and impossible situations. The second episode in the series is set for release on September 20th, and to celebrate today's retail release of the Season , Telltale has unveiled a new set of screenshots from Episode 2: "Children of Arkham." Check them out below:
The first of these stills shows Oswald Cobblepot (a.k.a. Penguin) living up to his namesake by donning a bird mask as he takes dogged reporter Vicki Vale hostage. In this version of the DC universe, Bruce and Oswald were childhood friends, but Oswald took a turn for the bad after losing his family... and the family fortune along with them. He acted outwardly amiable towards Bruce during his first appearance, so it's likely that the Penguin mask is designed to prevent his old friend from recognizing him. As if that weren't enough to deal with, it also looks like Batman will have to battle a version of classic foe Blockbuster, not to mention the specter of his parent's murderer, Joe Chill.
Batman – The Telltale Series episode 1, “Realm of Shadows,” is available now on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, OS X and compatible Android and iOS devices. Episode 2, “Children of Arkham,” will release on September 20th, 2016.
