Rebecca is one of the most interesting characters on Ted Lasso. When first introduced, she seemed to be set up as a deceptive and treacherous antagonist to Ted. However, she quickly became much more sympathetic and likable, becoming one of Ted's best friends.
Rebecca has a lot of great qualities that make her such a winning character. From her intelligence to her kindness to her strength, she is so much fun to follow in the series and is responsible for some quotes that are both touching and hilarious.
Rebecca Is Introduced To Memes
"Oh, God. Did We Really Make Michael Jordan Cry?"
While the first season of Ted Lasso was a feel-good comedy, the second season goes to some more dramatic places. And things start off with a rather darkly comedic note as Danny Rojas accidentally kills a mascot dog during a game.
The moment gets a lot of attention online which Keeley brings to Rebecca's attention. However, the sadness of the moment is broken when Rebecca comments on making Michael Jordan cry. Though it is never actually shown, it is quite clear which meme she is looking at.
Rebecca Is A Lion
"Are You Mad? Pandas Are Fat And Lazy And Have P***-Stained Fur. Lions Are Powerful And Majestic And Rule The Jungle."
At the beginning of the series, Rebecca attempts to come off as the standoffish boss who has no interest in the people who work for her. However, even early on, it is clear that she has a lot of trouble staying out of all of the fun.
When Keeley asks if Rebecca and Ted would rather be a lion or panda, Rebecca insists she doesn't have time for that and begins to leave. But when Ted chooses a panda, Rebecca can't help but argue that decision and give her own valid reasoning for why lion is the correct answer.
Rebecca Makes Coach Beard Choose
"For Dinner Tonight It's Either Chicken Or Steak. You Can't Have Both."
Given how business-minded and serious Rebecca is in the first season, it is great fun seeing her forced to deal with Ted and the other wacky characters of the show. At times she seems like an overworked mother trying to control her rambunctious children.
When planning a charity dinner that the entire team will be attending, Rebecca interrupts the soccer practice to call out Coach Beard. She informs him it is not an option to choose both dinners and his sheepish look is priceless.
Rebecca Acknowledges Higgins' Marriage
"Apart From Leslie's Marriage, Which Is A Bloody Greeting Card Of Some Kind."
Though Rebecca initially has no love for her right-hand man Higgins, as she embraces her friendlier qualities, they form a very warm bond. It also allows her to get to know more about his family, including his heartwarming and sweet marriage to his wife.
In that regard, Rebecca and Higgins' outlooks on marriage are quite different. When Rebecca suggests all relationships are nightmares, Higgins says, "My relationship is the oxygen that gives me life." Rebecca reluctantly makes an amendment to her previous statement.
Rebecca's Annual Meeting With Ted
"See You Next Year."
Despite the early deception, the friendship between Rebecca and Ted becomes one of the best in the show. Rebecca even trusts Ted enough to tell him about her romance with Sam on the team at the end of the second season.
Ted gives his usual heartfelt advice to Rebecca before pointing out that she is making a habit of telling him big secrets at the end of the year, referring to her previous confession ing him. Rebecca replies "See you next year," cementing their friendship as one that will last.
Rebecca Cheers On The Team
"Oh, This Sport. I'd Forgotten How Stressful It Is When You Actually Give A S***."
Rebecca's plan to sabotage the team made for some fun tension in the first season, but it was nice to see her put that behind her and become a truly likable character. It also allows her to have some fun with the other characters.
Rebecca gets her first chance to really enjoy a soccer game as the coach of the owner of the team. However, she acknowledges that it is a lot more stressful to watch when she actually wants them to win.
Rebecca's Code Word
"I Need To Reapply My Lip Liner. Men Don't Know What That Means And Women Understand It Requires Time And Focus."
Another key aspect of Rebecca's character is the sexism she faces in her position. She is in the media spotlight, going through a very public divorce, and attempts to maintain a strong demeanor through all of it. It is through this storyline that Rebecca really endears herself and shows her strength.
When Keeley complains that she doesn't have a good code word for when she has to go to the bathroom, Rebecca suggests "reapplying her lip liner" as a good one, showing that these are the kinds of things she has to think about and has gotten quite good at it over time.
Rebecca Gives Keeley Advice
"A Bit Of Advice For Being A Boss. Hire Your Best Friend."
One of the most unexpected and beautiful friendships on Ted Lasso is between Rebecca and Keeley. Their bond comes from a place of simply ing one another which makes for some heartwarming moments.
When Keeley is offered a dream job, the friends share a bittersweet goodbye as she will have to step away from working for Rebecca. Unsurprisingly, Rebecca is proud to see Keeley grow her career and suggests she follows Rebecca's wise decision of hiring her best friend.
Rebecca Signs Off
"Sincerely, Boss Ass B****."
Watching Rebecca transform into a more confident person over the course of the series is very rewarding, especially as she stands up to people who stand in her way while also remaining professional.
When one of the club's biggest ers tells Rebecca to fire Sam, she writes him a letter in response. Rebecca's goddaughter suggests some very aggressive language which Rebecca softens. However, the suggestion of g off as "boss ass b****" is something Rebecca can get behind.
