An incredibly fun movie that gets that superhero stories are more than aesthetic - they're episodic narratives where each chapter needs to be a contained adventure you'd be willing to pay for. Gunn picks fantastic, deep-cut DC characters to focus on, balancing the humor and heart to perfection.

James Gunn vastly improved on the original movie. The bar was very low, so that wasn't a hard task; however, he went above and beyond and made an actually fun movie with these characters. Gets the ridiculousness of superheroes without snidely thumbing its nose at the whole venture. No wonder DC put him in charge.

So much better than the first Suicide Squad movie! The acting, costuming, plot, humor, and everything else are all a massive improvement in this movie compared to the first Suicide Squad.

With far fewer restrictions than what he had with the MCU, James Gunn not only put everything great about the action, comedy writing, and character work of Guardians of the Galaxy into The Suicide Squad, but went even far with the violence and general absurdity to make a beautifully chaotic film. It's one of the best DCEU films that succeeds in every area 2016's Suicide Squad failed in, and overall, it was a great start to Gunn's career of running the new run of DC movies.

I really think James Gunn did a fantastic job rebuilding a film that stumbled hard over the first entry. It may have been facing an uphill climb, considering the links to earlier movies and some less than spectacular DCEU titles, but what it achieved makes it stand out as the best DCEU movie ever made.

If the DCU can outshine this success, I will be incredibly happy, but The Suicide Squad walked so the DCU can run.

This movie is designed to be silly, fun, gruesome, and captivating, and it checks every box. The big twists and the clear subversions also added to the excitement of the story, ultimately creating something that was always going to play by its own rules, and smash expectations.

A step up from its the previous film and one of the best movies in the entire DCEU. A shame that it bombed financially. Didn't stop James Gunn from getting that sweet DCU CEO position. Glad this exists. John Cena is unreal as Peacemaker. I love these characters.

The Suicide Squad we deserved in the first place. Ironically for a series whose initial movie banked itself way too hard on being Guardians of the Galaxy, Gunn's soft reboot feels distinct from his MCU team, even as the movie covers familiar themes from his filmography. It's a blend of what Guardians taught him to express, and his more cynical Troma/horror roots, with a lot of emotional heart, you fall in love with these characters who are a flick of a switch away from death, and that keeps you invested. The returning cast are great, Elba and Cena's chemistry and competitiveness is hilarious, and Ratcatcher is the best.

Really enjoyed the first one. This one felt like blah filler. It has its moments and the cast is good. The plot is all over the place with sidestep that are head scratching bad. It's entertaining but definitely not good. Not overly bad either so going to stick with blah.

It was a tough challenge for James Gunn with "The Suicide Squad," for he needed to revamp the franchise from its rocky beginnings. With great finesse, he did this by infusing the film with that rare mix of deadpan humor, action, and heart. Top-notch Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, and John Cena's Peacemaker added a funny tilt to the film. It's memorable with all its chaotic energy and emotional instances.

Gunn's The Suicide Squad is an absolute thrill ride. Featuring prime moments of comedy, there are also moments of pure tear-jerking heart that Gunn is known for. When I think about this movie, I get even more excited that Gunn is guiding the next chapter of DC movies on-screen beginning with 2025's Superman and a whole new universe of possibilities.

The Suicide Squad helped DC's cast of misfits find redemption for their 2016 misfire, and James Gunn continued to prove how great he is with unfashionable superhero characters. The fast-paced action and quality cinematography is met with some stand-out performances from the likes of Margot Robbie, John Cena, Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, and Joel Kinnaman, making it one of the DCU's best movies. The film is full of hilarious jokes and fascinating character interaction, but it also has some great payoffs and strong arcs that make it more than a simple comedy action. Whether or not a third Suicide Squad movie will happen or not is anyone's guess, but if it's anything like the 2021 adventure, I'm hoping we see more from these crazy anti-heroes.
