I usually don't really enjoy historical fiction, but Bridgerton surprisingly really captured my interest. I love all of the romance, and the suspense that brings, as the audience waits eagerly to see who will get with who in the end.

Bridgerton is a much welcome return for the period drama genre, albiet with a bit more spice added. Even with anachronistic pop songs woven into the background via orchestral renditions, I am still for the most part enthralled each season, though the Kathony storyline still remains my favorite. While a new couple per season, I could see some finding long-term investment difficult, especially with new tropes being touched upon that may not be to everyone's liking, but there is still plenty to offer.

I’ll always love the first season the most but the last one came in at number two for me.

I am not really into historical dramas.. But Bridgerton surprised me. Season 3 opened my eyes to Bridgerton. I didn't really watch the first 2 seasons when it came out. But after watching season 3.. I went back and watched from Seasons 1 and 2, Queen Charlotte..and until now.. I am rewatching Season 3..which is by far my favorite.

Understand this, I am not a romance girly. I do not particularly enjoy romance movies and enjoy romance-based shows even less. HOWEVER, this is so unbelievably addictive and I can't figure out why. For someone who doesn't care for romance-core plots, I could not stop waiting for these couples to get together and every season I think it can't get better and every season it does! Season 3 was unmatched in it's suspense and urgency and I loved every single second of it. Lady Whistledown is someone I wish existed now because what I would not give to be like everyone in this town trying to sleuth out who it is. Even the characters I hate make this fun to watch because it's genuinely fun to hate them. Lastly, I think this does a perfect job of transitioning to new characters. Often it can be easy to lose your audience when that happens, but because they give us just enough of them in a prior season, we're already a little invested, so we're not put off when their season roles around. And Bridgerton is honestly so much more than it's characters. The style, the aesthetic, everything about it is amazing. And I ESPECIALLY love the classical covers of modern songs, such a neat way to match the theme but also make it familiar.

I'm not usually one for sweeping tales of romance. I don't mind if there's a little romance thrown into my comedy or adventure, but this series has made romance, and all of the tropes that come along with it, an incredibly fun ride.

I particularly enjoy that each season of the series puts its focus squarely on one Bridgerton couple (with others in ing roles, of course), and that each of those couples gets to embody a tried and true trope of the genre. Season 1 is fake dating, season 2 is enemies to lovers, and season 3 is friends to lovers. It makes each story feel distinctly different from the season before it.

It's also a welcome move to make this series alternative history with people of color welcomed into the upper echelons of English Regency society thanks to the Queen and her social experiment. It's a great choice to actually incorporate cultural practices from outside of Regency England when the characters have families from other places, like the Haldi ceremony for Edwina in season 2.

The use of instrumental versions of modern pop songs is just the icing on the cake to remind the audience that this show isn't the typical historical romance. It reminds us that the writers are drawing from modern sensibilities even while we inhabit this very old form of society. The show is definitely one of Netflix's best gems.
