Warning! Contains spoilers for Superman #5!A severely underrated Superman antagonist has gotten the upgrade she deserves. Silver Banshee shows the Man of Steel what she's capable of with a new ear-piercing upgrade.
In Superman #5 by Joshua Williamson and Jamal Campbell, the Man of Steel finds himself confronting power of the Phantom Zone.
Banshee realizes that Pharm and Graft's experiments have made it so Banshee can't stop screaming, forcing her to leave to protect Jimmy. Thankfully, Mercy Graves and other of Supercorp deliver a device that could sever the connection and turn Siobhan back to normal. Jimmy and Superman find Silver Banshee and encourage her to scream as loud as possible into a hypersonic suppressor. Banshee does exactly that, and though it robs Superman of his enhanced hearing, the device brings Siobhan back to her normal level of power.
Silver Banshee's New Powers Came From Superman's Phantom Zone
Though not as revered as Lex Luthor or Brainiac, Silver Banshee has a history of doing some real damage to the Superman Family. Siobhan carries a curse that stretches far back down her family line. When transformed into her Banshee self, Siobhan can scream loud enough to level buildings. She also has the ability to kill someone with her signature death wail, provided she knows her victim's full name. Being a magical antagonist, Silver Banshee has proved to be a challenging foe to the Superman Family.
As powerful as Silver Banshee is, tying her abilities to the Phantom Zone is an ingenious way of boosting her natural abilities. The pocket dimension has been used as a prison for centuries and has held back some of Superman's strongest foes. Banshee was plenty strong on her own, easily keeping up with Kryptonians like Supergirl for years. Bridging her powers with the Phantom Zone potentially turns Siobhan into the ultimate Superman killer.
Superman Finally Meets His Match With an Enhanced Silver Banshee
As powerful as Silver Banshee is, she could never quite get an edge over Superman or Supergirl. They'd always find some way to overcome her magical abilities and send her packing. But infusing her abilities with a connection to the Phantom Zone pushes her to an unseen level of power. The Phantom Zone is, after all, the realm of the shadowy Kryptonian deity, Nightwing. It makes sense that her powers would be amplified and become more intense from Pharm and Graft's experiment. Granted, Siobhan has stated that she's changed and doesn't want to fight Superman anymore. But her temporary upgrade could have spelled doom for the hero. Fans can see more of Silver Banshee's alterations in Superman #5, on sale now.
