Warning: SPOILERS for The Suicide Squad.
After Idris Elba’s Bloodsport and the other by Joel Kinneman’s Rick Flag.
One by one, the diverse team of DC Comics characters assembled by Waller fell apart, with many losing their lives in the opening act. Even the film’s core characters weren’t safe by the end, with Peacemaker (John Cena), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), and Rick Flag all being killed off – or seemingly killed off, at least in the case of Peacemaker. By the end of the movie, Waller was left without a team. Bloodsport, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), King Shark (Sylvester Stallone), and Ratcatcher 2 (Daniela Melchior) all survived, but ultimately severed their ties with the government to forge new lives.
Despite the current state of Task Force X, one member is still technically on Waller’s team. In an interesting turn of events, a post-credits scene revealed that The Suicide Squad’s first alleged casualty is one of Task Force X’s only survivors. Sometime after supposedly drowning during the swim, Weasel awoke, spitting water out of his lungs and then scampering off into the jungle. At least for now, Waller doesn’t seem to know that the suicide squad's humanoid Weasel is still alive, which means that as far as ARGUS knows, Weasel is dead.
Technically, Peacemaker is also still alive, but he's in traction in a hospital bed and it's unclear whether or not he'll recover enough to re Task Force X or if he'll go his own way if he does recover. For the moment, that means Weasel is the only current Task Force X member who both survived and is relatively unharmed and the potential is there for Sean Gunn’s character to return to the fold. Subsequent sightings of the creature in Corto Maltese could tip them off to his survival. If that happens, ARGUS could send operatives to pick him up. Of course, Weasel being incapacitated so easily (and so quickly) may put his return to active duty very low on her priority list. But it’s worth noting that ARGUS will be starting from scratch when they rebuild the team for Suicide Squad 3, so options for team could be limited.
The Suicide Squad featuring Weasel in a post-credits scene does give the implication that it's setting him up to be used in some capacity, whether it be on HBO Max’s Peacemaker show or Suicide Squad 3. If it’s the latter, it can put Weasel on a lineup composed primarily of new additions to the DCEU’s library of D-list villains. If Waller fails to convince Bloodsport and company to return, Weasel could be the only familiar face on the roster if Peacemaker doesn't recover. If Weasel actually sticks around longer than the opening scene, the movie may have an opportunity to showcase this mysterious creature’s abilities and perhaps delve a bit into his backstory, especially now that the film’s director, James Gunn, has hinted at Weasel's innocence.
