The fourth Star Wars: Squadrons, is one with such limited content and very narrow scope, however in that scope, the game goes deep. There is such incredible detail on the few ships and maps, as well as for the controls, the immersive experience overall, and the customization.
However, when you have something that is as fun as Squadrons, but also as in-depth as the game is with so many details, easter eggs, and references, contained within such a vast canon, there are going to be some easily missed by fans, whether that be by not knowing about them or understanding them, or simply not finding them in the first place.
Pazaak
Squadrons is great fun, for a specific type of fan and player it is an incredible game, and it lives up to what it sets up to be. However, it is not the greatest Star Wars game ever, and nearly two decades later many fans still believe Knights Of The Old Republic.
It was in that game that the game of Pazaak debuted (in the Legends timeline.) It is a card game that could get played by players in KoTOR and in Squadrons it gets mentioned by Frisk. He talks about gambling and credits a decent bit, even dropping in Sabacc, which can easily get confused with Pazaak and is the game seen in Solo as the one that got Han the Falcon.
Stormtrooper Wave
This game has quite a few things throughout that a lot of fans are not aware they can do. One such thing comes in the form of a neat little easter egg from Imperial stormtroopers.
In the waiting room for a game to start, if you look round, there are two stormtroopers simply standing there, one of whom will give your character a wave.
Dragon Void Run
Keo Venzee is one of the of Vanguard Squadron and an incredibly fascinating character in the story. Keos mentions how they were a semi-pro racer before their time in Vanguard Squadron, specifically mentioning the Dragon Void Run.
Canon junkies will know about the Dragon Void Run, but that is not all fans, and the Dragon Void Run will fly over a lot of players' heads in of significance. The Dragon Void Run can be seen in the Marvel Han Solo run, and sees Han actually take part in the race. Keo also mentions Delan Vook, a participant in the very same race as Han Solo.
The Battle Of Mimban
Gunny is the leader of Vanguard Squadron and a battle-hardened freedom fighter who has fought against oppression for her entire life, and lost her arm in the process, an event she explains in Squadrons.
She mentions that it happened in the Battle of Mimban during the Clone Wars. Even fans of the immense animated show will think that is a newly talked about event, but it is not, it appeared in Legends, gets a fleeting mention in The Clone Wars, and is detailed in the comic 501 Plus One - Agent Of The Republic Special 1, with the 501st legion and the 224th division mud troopers fighting against the Separatists.
Familiar Voices
It is so easy for the voice talents of Star Wars content to get overlooked and forgotten about, despite there being a slew of incredibly talented individuals bringing their A-game to the animated shows and video games of the franchise.
Squadrons has some familiar voices that more hardcore fans will recognize. Vanessa Marshall reprised her role as the phenomenal Hera Syndulla, while the talented James Arnold Taylor voiced Frisk, trading Obi-Wan for Trandoshan in this outing that is far harder to recognize than the established voice of Hera. Denis Lawson also comes in for his cameo as Wedge Antilles, reprising his role for the second time in a year, with a tonne of other talents bringing their all to their roles in the game.
Alphabet Squadron Dig
During the story, leader of Vanguard Squadron Gunny takes a dig at Alphabet Squadron in a fleeting comment, to some fans this sent a smile to their face, but others would have totally glossed over it.
Alphabet Squadron comes from an ongoing canon book series that follows the titular group of pilots. There are a few easter eggs related to Alphabet Squadron and in the campaign, this is the most obvious. They came out of nowhere as a brilliant addition to the canon, and are beloved characters that fans want more and more of, and any fan of this game should pick up their novels.
Frisk's Run-In With Grand iral Thrawn
Players are always presented with the choice of talking to select characters of the two Squadrons in between missions, with each encounter giving new information on the feelings, mindset, or life of them.
Frisk talks all about his past as an outsider of his species, his criminal goings-on in of forgery, and how he managed to get himself a death warrant all because one person, one time managed to see through the art he had, despite it working every time before. That person was Grand iral Thrawn, a beloved Star Wars character who is a genius tactician and an art aficionado. It is an awesome little easter egg for those who go through the effort of talking to the characters.
All Alone In The Ship
While most people are likely aware that in VR, players are able to take in all the details of the cockpits of famous ships by looking around, but this can get done without VR with a simple double-tap of R3 to free look around and take in those same things.
Another thing related to free looking a lot of players may not know is that in the ships, the UT-60D U-wing and the TIE/rp Reaper, if you look to your side there is nobody there, a lonely pilot delivering help to the rest of the team.
LGBTQ+ Representation
While the conversations had with the various characters of the game have many easter eggs in and of themselves if players choose to have them, some details about the characters are not made explicitly clear in these conversations.
One such detail is the LGBTQ+ representation between two characters. Keo Venzee mentioned earlier uses the pronouns they/them, while Varko Grey, leader of Titan Squadron, has a husband named Emory who is likely to be a significant part of Varko's longing for retirement after war. Star Wars is definitely taking strides in the right direction with this sort of representation, and while more should and will be done in the future this is a phenomenal step and everybody involved should be proud of these choices in Squadrons which stick with the core idea of Star Wars being for everybody.
Many Customization References
It is in the customization where canon and Legends junkies will get themselves a slew of easter eggs and references to various people and things from the two timelines to enjoy, and are little details not known to many.
In the naming portion of the game, random default names include Keyan Farlandar from the original X-Wing game, Ace Azzameen is from X-Wing Alliance, and Maarek Steele is from the TIE Fighter game. In of skins, there are different squadron's color schemes with references to events, materials, and characters involved with the squadrons such as Lt. Valeria (Blue Squadron) a character from the Lego Freemaker Adventures. There are also decals and interior cosmetics which reference stuff like Dejarik, Alphabet Squadron, Chopper from art by Sabine Wren, Tuggtar the Ewok, Gonk Droids, and more.
