Star Wars' best characters. Yet, up until now, Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 had seemed rather unlikely.

However, per Variety, Ewan McGregor has expressed interest in returning to the screen yet again in a potential Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2. According to the article, McGregor explained:

“I loved, more than anything, getting to know Alec Guinness’ work because I was playing him as a young man.... Even now with the series, that’s my personal challenge — if a take feels a bit like him, I’m happy.”

Excitingly, though, McGregor doesn't seem to think that work is done. Rather, he shared:

“I really do hope we get a chance to do another one.... Between where we ended off in the series and when Alec Guinness comes on screen with Luke Skywalker, I think there’s another few stories to tell in there.”

As if these comments weren't enough to get Star Wars audiences excited, McGregor isn't the only Obi-Wan Kenobi actor who seems to be in favor of a potential season 2. Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen also shared his hope for a second season, stating:

“If it means that I got to do more with Ewan, then that’s a no-brainer, but I really hope that he continues with the character.... Just as a fan, it’s so exciting to get to watch him play Obi-Wan — he’s just so good at it.”

Although Star Wars has thus far indicated that there wouldn't be an Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, these comments from Christensen and McGregor certainly make it seem as though hope remains.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most recognizable characters in Star Wars, meaning he also has an extensive timeline within the franchise.

What Ewan McGregor & Hayden Christensen's Hopes Mean For Star Wars

While Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen's mutual interest in Obi-Wan Kenobi certainly isn't the only factor at play when it comes to Star Wars seriously considering renewing the show for a second season, this does have major implications for the franchise. For one, McGregor and Christensen both remain incredibly beloved in the franchise. Sentiments about the prequel trilogy have shifted massively over the years, with many now considering them among Star Wars' best movies. Coinciding with that has been significant fanfare around both actors' returns to Star Wars.

The franchise could also (unfortunately) use a win at this point, as The Acolyte's cancelation reinforced the fractures that currently exist in the fanbase. With Christensen and McGregor so enthusiastic about the project, having these beloved actors return to their equally beloved roles seems, to borrow Christensen's own language, like a no-brainer. Moreover, McGregor is absolutely right that there is more story to tell. The Dark Times are incredibly important to the Star Wars timeline, and plenty more happens before A New Hope.

Obi-Wan Kenobi's (Second) Return Would Be A True Star Wars Moment

It has been wonderful to see Star Wars expand beyond the Skywalker Saga in recent years, but there's simply something undeniably magical about Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen coming back together on screen, and they seem to both be aware of it. As someone who is a massive fan of the prequel movies and both these brilliant actors, I couldn't be more excited about the possibility of Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2. In fact, the first season brought me some of my favorite Star Wars moments, especially in the brutally emotional scenes between Anakin/Darth Vader and Obi-Wan.

Obi-Wan Kenobi season 1 was also momentous in countless other ways, though. To name just a few, seeing Obi-Wan connect with young Princess Leia and witnessing how deeply Leia and Luke's respective adoptive families truly loved them were both incredibly meaningful to me. The thought that Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 could be coming down the line is truly thrilling, and it's giving me more than a little bit of hope to know these two Star Wars actors are also on board.
