Previously scheduled for March 17, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is being pushed back six weeks to April 28, 2023. In a statement released via the EA Star Wars Twitter , game director Stig Asmussen explains that the delay is to give the team time to enhance the player's experience and focus on bug fixes, performance, and stability. With the statement making direct references to polish and stability along with gameplay mechanicals such as exploration and traversal, there's some optimism that this delay will yield only positive results.

The Reasons For Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Delay Make Sense

With many games in recent years coming under criticism for releasing without sufficient polish, this news about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's delay seems a step in the right direction for EA. As much praise as Respawn's first Star Wars game had, it still launched with problems, including bugs in Fallen Order forcing players to restart their game. Giving Jedi: Survivor a little extra time will hopefully lead to a more stable game and, therefore, a more enjoyable experience for players.

In the statement, Asmussen gives his and the team's clear reasons for the delay in release. “We are now focused entirely on the final stage: bug fixes to enhance performance, stability, polish, and most importantly, the player experience.” Asmussen also notes that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and the next chapter of Cal Kestis’ story is content complete.

This change of release date is a direct response to Respawn gathered from the release and issues of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Asmussen cites the delay as a means for the team at Respawn to ensure the game reaches the studio's internal standards: “In order for the team to hit the Respawn quality bar, provide the team the time they need, and achieve the level of polish our fans deserve, we have added six crucial weeks to our release schedule - Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will now launch globally on April 28th.”

While fans will have to wait a little longer to see Cal and BD-1 in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, it's a great excuse for players to dive back into Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. In response to the statement on Twitter, many fans replied with messages for the team to take their time further demonstrating that the decision for Respawn to make this delay was the right call. With new lightsaber stances, forms of travel, and many planets to explore, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor remains one of the most anticipated games of 2023.
