The Star Wars franchise outside of the movies and TV shows has always been a goldmine for fantastic content. While Legends did have a whole lot of nonsense, it also had some spectacular stuff, stuff fans kind of wish they got to see on screen as well as read or look at in books or comics.
The new canon is no different, with a lot of great novels in which fans can dig deep. While not all of the fantastic ones are not suited for the screen, there is some that very much would be a joy to see.
Dark Disciple
Initially conceived as a whopping eight-episode arc for The Clone Wars, Dark Disciple follows Asajj Ventress and Quinlan Vos as the two unlikely allies are tasked with eliminating Count Dooku.
It is a really great read, but it is a shame we never got to see the arc realized in its original animated form, as seeing the blossoming romance of the two as well as just the fantastic characters again would be amazing. Hopefully, someday a Disney+ special is realized.
Star Wars: Kanan
The Star Wars: Kanan comic is one of the very best lines produced by Marvel in the new canon and follows Caleb Dume as he becomes a Padawan, and Order 66 occurs, leading to Caleb, now Kanan, going on the run.
The comic does not need to be adapted to screen. But Kanan is one of the best original characters from the new canon, and seeing a short animated special about his experience of Order 66 and beyond would be fantastic for any fan, especially with what happens with the clones.
Thrawn
The canon Thrawn novel and its sequels may not live up to some people's expectations of the original Legends trilogy, but that does not hurt their quality much. Exploring the life and thoughts of the Chiss Grand iral is always a joy.
The entire series of books would be suited for Thrawn's own television show, with a few tweaks, and with a villain as the lead of a show or movie yet to happen in the franchise, it would make it all the better.
Star Wars: Lando
Since Charles Soule writes it, it is unsurprising that Star Wars: Lando is one of the very best pieces of extended Star Wars canon content out there. It follows Lando as he accidentally steals the Emperor's private Yacht, while also giving the true story of Lobot.
This five-part series would be great in either animation or live-action and would work as a mini-series or just a straight-up forty minute to an hour special; we do need more Lando after all.
Master & Apprentice
Master & Apprentice is written by another superstar canon writer Claudia Gray and follows a young Obi-Wan Kenobi and his master Qui-Gon Jinn as they venture on a mission at a time where their relationship may be in jeopardy.
It is a pipe dream to want this in live-action form, as without the actual actors, the quality would be affected. Nevertheless, it is a fantastic story and fantastic read, and should it be made into any sort of on-screen content, it would be a treat.
Darth Maul & Darth Maul: Son Of Dathomir
Son Of Dathomir was another unproduced Clone Wars arc made into comic form following Maul's escape from Palpatine, and the subsequent hunting down of him and Mother Talzin by the villains.
Star Wars: Darth Maul takes place before The Phantom Menace and follows his origin, and his disobeying his master and testing his skills against a Jedi. Either comic would be fantastic to see in either live-action or animation, like a short movie, mini-series, or whatever else. Maul is phenomenal, and we will get more content from him sooner rather than later.
Lords Of The Sith
Lords Of The Sith sees Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader ambushed and stranded on Ryloth, with their lightsabers and the Force to guide them as their relationship gets the ultimate test.
Everything about this begs to be seen on-screen. Seeing Vader and Palpatine, side by side, with lightsabers, with the Force, working together to escape a dangerous situation by themselves is a potential goldmine of iconic moments.
Doctor Aphra
The Doctor Aphra comic series, and the time she spends crossed over with Vader, all of it is great, and all of it deserves to be seen on screen.
Seeing Aphra and her amazing evil droids explore the Galaxy, find artifacts, and encounter characters would be Indiana Jones-esque and would work in any format, animated, live-action, movie, show, mini-series, whatever. Hopefully, Aphra is brought into the Disney+ fold at some point.
Alphabet Squadron
Written by Alexander Freed, Alphabet Squadron is the first novel in a trilogy that will soon see its second novel and follows a unique team of five fighter pilots, each flying a different starfighter, as they are tasked by Hera Syndulla to track down and destroy the Shadow Wing.
It is a phenomenal read and is something that could very well work as a Disney+ original. Hopefully, the second and third entries live up to the first, and if so, they could all be adapted.
Any Vader Comic
The highlight of the extended Star Wars canon thus far has been the consistent quality of the Darth Vader comics. There have been a few, and each of them is fantastic, whether it be diving into his psyche, him hunting Jedi, he and Palpatine's relationship, or anything else, his comics always deliver.
A Vader show or movie is something that fans have wanted for a long time, and seeing these comics integrated into such a thing would be phenomenal no matter when it takes place.
