This post contains SPOILERS for Defenders Beyond #2
The latest issue of Marvel Comics' Defenders Beyond essentially confirms a major theory about Peter Quill's setting Peter up to become a literal Star-Lord known as Master of the Sun. Now, Ewing is doubling down with Defenders Beyond, confirming that Peter Quill has always had a galactic destiny far greater than he's ever known.
In Defenders #4 from writer Al Ewing and artist Javier Rodriguez, Doctor Strange's team of heroes were introduced to the 4th Cosmos (the most current version being the 8th). This early version of the multiverse contained the living archetypal ideas that will eventually become the individual heroes of the current era. This is significant as it reveals the core concepts said heroes come to embody. For example, "Of-Past" becomes Captain America while "Of-Future" is Iron Man. While some were directly referenced and identified by the issue itself, the editor's notes encouraged readers to send in their guesses to match the featured archetypes with their present-day heroes and villains.

Now, Defenders Beyond #4 reveals that Star-Lord's archetype is "Of-Sun" right along with all the other featured characters, effectively confirming Peter's status as a galactically significant being in the Marvel Universe. This lends credence to the theory that he's destined to become Master of the Sun like Ragnar, the 'alien' who granted him his powers (which Ewing strongly implies is an aspect of Peter or potentially his future self.) Star-Lord isn't some random human from Earth who was given a ship and cool element guns by an alien, but someone who's fundamentally connected to the sun on a cosmic, archetypal scale. He's so much bigger than just a Guardian of the Galaxy.
Thanks to Al Ewing, Peter Quill is in the midst of a hugely cosmic and magical transformation that will make him much more than the swashbuckling hero he's typically been in Marvel Comics. As such, doubling down on his connection to the sun via this archetype confirms this process. Ewing is making it clear that Star-Lord was always meant to become a Master of the Sun, and that's why he was chosen to receive his new near-godly powers (even if he doesn't fully understand what that means yet).
All things considered, "Of-Sun" is a pretty epic archetype for Peter Quill to be based on in Marvel's cosmos. Not only does it point back to his growing powers as a literal Star-Lord, but it also proves his status and future destiny in the Marvel Universe at large. Defenders Beyond #2 is on sale now.
