Warning: Spoilers for Imperial #1 and #2!Marvel unveils Star-Lord's new costume design, which includes his brand-new rocket boots. In both the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and in his Avengers appearances, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has showcased Peter Quill using his tech to fly. By the third GOTG movie, he trades his signature boots and mask to fly using Rocket Raccoon's jetpacks he made for the team, but the boots return in the comics.

AIPT Comics offers a first look at Imperial #2's artwork, which includes a glimpse at Star-Lord's new outfit and use of his high-tech rocket boots. Star-Lord's Latest Costume Features New Rocket Boots

Imperial #2 by Jonathan Hickman, Iban Coello, Federico Vicentini, and Federico Blee

The first issue of Imperial saw Star-Lord watch his father, J'Son, murdered in front of the Galactic Council as a political conspiracy began to unfold. Along with J'Son, several leaders (including the Hulk's son, Hiro-Kala) are assassinated either by mysterious poison or a sniper's bullet. Star-Lord acquires help from long-time friend Nova to investigate his father's death, as well as who could be orchestrating all of this turmoil. To best combat these assailants, Star-Lord is adopting a new costume for himself.

Star-Lord's latest redesign is armored in a predominantly blue and white color scheme. It features gold-plated padding to the shoulder, forearm, and ankle areas, as well as the belt. Peter can also be seen sporting a gold visor for his eyes. Quill trades his signature full-facial helmet for a blue one that covers most of his head, save for the face. As far as accessories, the new suit features rockets beneath his feet that allow him to fly through space, proving all the more practical as he shoots at the opposition with two pistols in hand.

Star-Lord Asserts Himself as King to the Spartax Empire

It feels apparent that this new costume is meant to represent a new status quo for Star-Lord. With a sister falling ill and a father now dead, Peter has been appointed the King of his native Spartax Empire. Some have speculated that it could shift Star-Lord to become a Marvel villain, but alternatively, it could rechristen him to become even more of a hero. Having access to the Spartoi race's best resources could allow Star-Lord to help guard the galaxy in a new way, and to upgrade his technology better than it's ever been before.

Imperial #2 will be available from Marvel on July 9.
