Galactus, granting her the power of flight, and giving her webs a huge level-up, as she can now project her webbing into a shield. All of that and more comes in the latest exciting development for the fan-favorite character, who is taking on an increasingly prominent role in the Marvel Universe.
In the preview for What If...? Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen (2025) #1 – written by Kalinda Vazquez, with art by Daniel Picciotto – a Gwen Stacy variant comes to the aid of a herald of Galactus, and is subsequently enlisted by Galactus and granted the power cosmic as the new herald of the World-Devourer.
Gwen's issue is the final one in this What If? one-shot series, and there are still some fascinating things that stand out; in particular, Spider-Gwen using a web shield with her new super-webbing, and even fighting a dragon, are thrilling moments promised by the issue.
Ghost-Spider's Major Power Upgrade Might Only Be A "What If?" For Now, But It Signals Her Increasing Prominence In Marvel Lore
What If...? Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen (2025) #1 – Written By Kalinda Vazquez; Art By Daniel Picciotto; Main Cover By Ron Lim & Isreal Silva (Color)
Each of the heroes in the What If...? Galactus series had their classic looks redesigned by Silver Surfer artist Ron Lim. Each of these designs are featured on the covers of the comics revealed in September, but the new previews demonstrate the suits in action. One common ability granted to a herald of Galactus is the power of flight. As Spider-Gwen flies for the first time, her new web-patterned wing cape looks amazing, and it will look even better in color. As seen on the comic's cover, another new power of Spider-Gwen is channeling beams of energy from her hands.

Marvel Wants Everyone to Know Silver Hulk Is Galactus' Strongest Herald to Date: Here's Why
Marvel presents Galactus’ most powerful herald to date, with The Hulk rising to his peak cosmic potential and gaining the ultimate power upgrade.
Spider-Gwen's new suit fits her into silver armor with a base color scheme similar to that of the Silver Surfer, and a design reminiscent of a medieval knight, especially her boots and gauntlets. This new design fits perfectly into the new story as Spider-Gwen takes a dragon head on as Galactus' new herald. As she is fighting a literal dragon, Spider-Gwen seems to project a shield made of her webs that defends her from the dragon's fiery breath. Adding the shield leans even further into Gwen's knight in shining armor vibe.
Spider-Gwen's Powers As Galactus' Herald Make Her The Most Powerful Hero In The Spider-Verse, But It Might Not Last Long
What If...? Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen (2025) #1 – Variant Covers By Mark Bagley, Pete Woods, & More
The powers displayed by Spider-Gwen on the cover and in the preview of this one-shot are not even close to the full powers of a herald of Galactus. Heralds have been known to rearrange matter, advance evolution, time travel, space travel, and even travel interdimensionally, any of which could be how she meets the dragon. There are many powerful Spider-Totems in the Spider-Verse, but the power cosmic puts Gwen beyond any of them, with the immense power to both create and destroy. Yet all of that is only a fraction compared to the power of Galactus himself.
Even with her godlike powers, Spider-Gwen will have a hard time making even a dent against Galactus.
As the herald of Galactus, Spider-Gwen surveys the Marvel Multiverse for planets suitable to be consumed by her new master, and announces his coming before he arrives. During her scouting, Gwen will come across a world familiar to her own, bringing up a moral dilemma within her. Even with her godlike powers, Spider-Gwen will have a hard time making even a dent against Galactus, meaning her decision to defend the helpless, even against one of the greatest Multiversal powers, could mean the end of this Spider-Gwen
What If...? Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen #1 will be available January 29, 2025, from Marvel Comics.
