Warning: Spoilers for Solo Leveing episode #6The already quite popular Solo Leveling series is demonstrating once again why so many fans love it through the introduction of a brutal twist on Sung Jin-woo's already unique situation. However, this twist happens in circumstances that risk diluting its effect, but it also sets up much more horrific implications for the future.

An already compelling spin on a popular fantasy trope, Solo Leveling episode #6 attempted to make Sung Jin-woo's highly anticipated chance at revenge against the C-rank party that betrayed him and novice hunter Jin-ho by having the "system" that revived and gave him the ability to level up force him to kill his betrayers or face the consequences.

Sung Jin-woo receives notification to kill his betrayers in Solo Leveling

However, Sung Jin-woo was already in a kill or be killed situation, which makes his resort to murder and apparent first step on a dark path less compelling, because he didn't really have a choice in the matter if he wanted to survive. Also, the system straight-up tells Jin-woo that he will die if he doesn't kill his enemies, which takes away any option of using non-lethal solutions.

Solo Leveling's Amazing Twist Has Massive Implications

The party that betrayed in Sung Jin-woo in Solo Leveling

The fact that the system can force Sung Jin-woo to perform such horrific acts is incredibly terrifying for obvious reasons, but mostly because of what they imply. Even though killing anyone for the first time can be traumatic, Sung Jin-woo's first targets are easily the least difficult victims he could have ever been forced to murder. The implications, however, are quite massive, because it's now very plausible that the system controlling him could force him to go after an innocent bystander, a friend, or even a loved one.

Most fans of action/adventure series like Solo Leveling can't get enough of a good revenge story and were undoubtedly looking forward to the moment when Sung Jin-woo not only proved to his betrayers how wrong they were to underrate him but enacted justice against them. However, having the system force him to kill them took away agency from Jin-woo's choice, while minimizing the overall effect of such an amazing twist. This, however, could be the setup for the dark path that Jin-woo will take if he keeps submitting to the system's request.

Solo Leveling Already Put Jin-woo on the Path to Corruption

Sung Jin-woo prepares to attack in Solo Leveling

Solo Leveling's decision to unveil this twist against such opponents set it up to be effectively built upon later in the series. By revealing the twist at the least satisfying time, Solo Leveling now has the means to make it even better once the series revisits the entire dynamic in a much more brutal setting where Jin-woo is not forced to kill by the system. After all, the whole twist is contingent on Sung Jin-woo being forced to do something horrible, and the more he has to be forced to do it, the worse the situation gets.

One of the best parts of Solo Leveling, episode #2, already introduced a darker side to Sung Jin-woo when he conveyed a deep-seated anger towards his party for justifying why he should be sacrificed instead of themselves. Now, it seems that the series is teased that the system is not just Jin-woo's ally and source of power, but also a corrupting force that toys with him. So while Solo Leveling's brutal twist may have happened at an odd time, that actually leaves viewers with even more terrifying implications,
