Disney's live-action remake of Disney's live-action remakes - discounting the mostly original story of Mufasa: The Lion King - this trailer was anticipated, especially given the iconicity of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves as Disney's first feature-length movie.

The story of Disney's live-action Snow White follows closely with that of the original. However, moving past what the film itself entails, Snow White could have a bearing on previous trends from Zegler's career. One such trend will most certainly continue in Snow White, while another will be broken, continuing Zegler's promising career in interesting ways.

Disney's Live-Action Snow White Can Give Rachel Zegler A Big Box Office Hit

Rachel Zegler's Previous Movies Have Not Been Overly Lucrative

Firstly, the trend that Snow White could break regarding Rachel Zegler's career is the string of poor box office performers the actor has starred in. While the box office results of Zegler's movies do not indicate the quality of the productions nor her individual performances, it remains the case that Zegler is yet to star in a sure-fire box office hit. Zegler's film debut came in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story before she went on to have a ing role in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and a starring role in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Movie Title

Budget

Domestic Box Office

Worldwide Box Office

West Side Story

$100 million

$38,530,322

$76,016,171

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

$110-$125 million

$57,638,006

$134,038,006

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

$100 million

$166,350,594

$344,357,763

As evidenced, Zegler's first two movies were nothing short of box office flops. West Side Story was great but unfortunately failed to outperform its high budget. Meanwhile, Shazam! 2 was sandwiched between the end of the DCEU and the beginning of James Gunn's DCU, meaning it also did not turn a profit. Although The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes was a success and certainly not a flop as it tripled its production cost, it is the least-successful installment in the franchise by a considerable $300 million margin and thus was not a complete hit.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part Two was the second-least successful movie in the franchise, earning $646 million worldwide.

Snow White could finally break this trend. Disney's live-action remakes have ittedly been on a downward trend regarding box office of late. The Lion King and Aladdin in 2019 both hit $1 billion, as did The Beauty and the Beast two years prior, yet the most successful movie since then was 2023's The Little Mermaid with a $560+ million worldwide haul. Given Snow White's popularity as a brand, it is expected to outperform the likes of Mulan, Dumbo, Cruella, and other Disney live-action failures since 2019, potentially breaking Zegler's trend and giving the actor her first $500+ million hit.

Her performance as Lucy Gray Baird in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes saw this trend continue, with Zegler's singing being an integral part of the character and leading to some of the film's most impactful, chill-inducing scenes.
