According to a Smallville ran through ten seasons from 2001 to 2011, following Tom Welling's young Clark Kent as he adapted to his Kryptonian powers and the increasingly dangerous world around him. Although Smallville was conceived as a Superman prequel TV show, it covered a big part of the Man of Steel's DC lore, with entire arcs focusing on some of his most famous storylines, villains, and ing characters from the comics.
In an episode of Starkville's House of El podcast, Smallville writer Bryan Q. Miller reveals there were plans for a season 10 episode starring a female Justice League team. According to Miller, Smallville's female JL team would have been composed of Erica Durance's Lois Lane, Laura Vandervoort's Supergirl, Serina Swan's Zatanna, and Allison Scagliotti's Jayna. However, "there was no time" for Smallville season 10 to set up the team. Miller laments, "being able to put those characters together that we had played with individually was a lot of fun, and it went away.” In the end, these characters never assembled.
What The Scrapped Smallville Female Justice League Episode Means
Smallville Almost Did What Few DC Universes Have Done
Smallville constantly raised the bar with every DC character it introduced. Heroes like Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Mister Terrific, Zatanna, and the Wonder Twins were a far cry from the grounded style of Tim Burton's Batman and Christopher Reeve's Superman, yet Smallville gave them important roles in the show, despite the risk of jumping the shark. The show also didn't stop there. Smallville went ahead and introduced the Justice League and the Justice Society, for example. If there had been more room in Smallville season 10 for a new superhero team, the female Justice League would have fit in perfectly.
