the excellent Silent Hill 2 remake, but Konami hasn't forgotten about its other projects, either.

During the Silent Hill Transmission, livestreamed on the evening of March 13, 2025, Silent Hill F got its first update in a long time, in the form of a new trailer and an extended interview with some of its creators that revealed further details of the game. Set in 1960s Japan, in the fictional town of Ebisugaoka, it's a departure from the usual Silent Hill fare in of story - but otherwise, its setting and themes appear to be right on point. The livestream also confirmed that Silent Hill F would be available the same night to wishlist on PS5, Xbox, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Silent Hill F Takes Inspiration From Classic Japanese Horror

(And Much, Much More)

Several of the Silent Hill F team appeared during the broadcast in order to explain what influenced the game. First, there was Ryukishi07, the game's scriptwriter, who helped explain a little more about the plot of Silent Hill F. Its setting, though fictional, is heavily based on the real-life city of Gero, located in the Gifu prefecture. It follows a young girl named Shimizu Hinako, an ordinary teenager whose life is upended when a mysterious fog suddenly rolls into town. The fog changes her world into a waking nightmare, and she's forced to fight to survive.

Comments by developers of the original game have sparked some debate about this iconic scene, and it could mean more than players think.

The trailer also shows some story elements that the developers explored in less detail. After the title drop, Shimizu is seen surrounded by a group of women wearing kimono and kitsune masks. They instruct her to say her farewells as they hold a knife up to her face. Next, there's a jump cut to Shimizu staring in the mirror as the skin of her face begins to peel off, revealing something dark and slimy below - and then the trailer ends. This is difficult to interpret, but it did give me chills, and I can't wait to find out more.

Gameplay of Silent Hill F will involve combat and puzzles - pretty typical Silent Hill fare. In one piece of concept art shown during the broadcast, Shimizu is seen clutching a bent lead pipe, markedly similar to those used by many a Silent Hill protagonist. Beyond that, we don't know much about how it'll play - it's not clear how much of the trailer is actual gameplay footage, and I wouldn't be surprised, at this early stage, if the answer were "none."

It's worth noting, however, that this does not appear to be part of Bloober's ongoing collaboration with Konami. Silent Hill F is being developed by Neobards, a Hong Kong-based studio that previously worked on the Resident Evil 3 remake.

Silent Hill F Has The Dream Team Involved

A Bold New Direction That (I Hope) Pays Off

Personally, I've been looking forward to Silent Hill F for a very long time, and this latest string of reveals has only intensified that. The Silent Hill Transmission also revealed that composer Akira Yamaoka - whose sound design for Silent Hill 2 is gut-wrenchingly brilliant - will be returning to compose some of the music on Silent Hill F. In addition, the script for the project was written by Ryukishi07, the creator of the fascinating cult classic visual novels Higurashi and Umineko When They Cry.

These two are more than qualified to work on Silent Hill F, and that has me hopeful. But beyond that, I sincerely believe that what this Silent Hill revival needs is some new blood. The remake was good, sure, but I'd much rather see some more original games. A new direction for the series, taking its core concepts of psychological horror and translating it to a brand-new setting. Silent Hill F looks to be exactly that, and I'm excited to see what new themes it chooses to explore.
