While thrilled about his return, Scott Foley its he's still not sure how his Scream 7 is also being helmed by Kevin Williamson, the creator of the series and scribe of the first two and fourth movies.

During a recent appearance on Good Morning America to discuss his Will Trent season 3 appearance, Foley was asked about his Scream 7 return. The star quickly itted to being unsure just how his return as former Ghostface killer Roman Bridger, even opening up the conversation to others so that "someone can explain it to me". Check out Foley's comments in the quote and video below:

I'm willing to take a poll here and someone can explain it to me because I don't know how it works out. Yeah, my character — spoiler alert — 25 years ago, I was the killer in Scream 3. He was brutally taken to town and killed. Now I'm back in Scream 7, and I'm not sure how it's going to work.

What Foley's Comments Mean For His Scream 7 Return

His Lack Of Awareness Isn't New For The Franchise

With production not only already underway on the latest movie, but also expected to wrap any day now, it may come as a surprise to some that Foley isn't aware just how his Scream 7 return will work in the film's narrative. That said, those familiar with the franchise are sure to recognize it as the latest effort by the creative team to keep big plot elements under wraps. Every prior Scream movie is infamous for the existence of multiple scripts and ever-changing stories in order to not only prevent leaks, but also keep the cast on their toes.

Foley's Scream 3 reveal remains one of the more notable of how said behind-the-scenes changes impacted the movie's story. The third installment remains the most divisive for its Ghostface reveal, with some feeling that Roman working on his own didn't make sense for much of the action of the film. Given the ending was rewritten and reshot a few times, particularly to include Patrick Dempsey's Mark Kincaid after his unexplained absence from the ending, and Sidney's near-death at the hands of Roman, it's sure to come as second nature for him to be kept in the dark.

Scream 3's Major Death Retcon Explained (How It Changes Sidney's Story)

Scream 3's Ghostface reveal included some dark secrets about Sidney's family, which changed her story and made it more complex and tragic.

As to how he will ultimately appear in the film, the most likely narrative for Roman's Scream 7 return is through some kind of nightmarish hallucination to Sidney. The franchise has already explored this concept in not only Scream 3 with Sidney, but also in the past two installments with Melissa Barrera's Sam having visions of Skeet Ulrich's Billy Loomis. Considering both Arquette and Matthew Lillard are also returning as Dewey and Stu, in spite of their previous deaths, it seems likely Sidney will be faced with guilt-driven apparitions from the trio.

Our Take On Foley's Scream 7 Confusion

He's Likely Being Saved For A Big Reveal

Scott Foley holding a knife as Roman in Scream 3

Regardless of just how Foley's reveal will play out in the film, his lack of awareness for his Scream 7 role certainly leads me to believe he's likely being saved for a big moment in the film. I still can't imagine they'll outright retcon his being shot in the head as a survival in the sequel, especially since everyone else killed as such has remained dead up to this point. However, with Sidney's daughter involved in this story, alongside a new family, I could definitely see new Ghostface killings leading to some kind of emotional, spiritual confrontation between her and Roman.
