The original voice of Albert Wesker from Albert Wesker’s rivalry with Resident Evil's Chris Redfield is also one of Resident Evil's more memorable plot devices.
Recently, PC Gamer (via IGN) revealed that Pablo Kuntz, who played Albert Wesker in the original Resident Evil, only just became aware of the character's fame. While Kuntz says he enjoyed playing the role, to him, it was just another gig during his time in Japan. Having went uncredited for his performance, fans weren’t officially aware of Kuntz’s involvement until the voice actor confirmed his role as Wesker in the comments of an unrelated YouTube video four years ago. Kuntz, in turn was stunned to discover how impactful Wesker was to the franchise. Since then, Pablo Kuntz has enjoyed reconnecting with the Resident Evil community and on his YouTube channel.
“Reconnecting with fans has quite honestly been a life-changer. It’s been a huge blessing, meeting a large number of great people that are ive, kind, and witty…It may have been a bit surprising at first, the incredible affection that people have for the game, but I don’t feel that way now. I (we) get it!”
Albert Wesker VA Pablo Kuntz Reconnects With Resident Evil On YouTube
Lately, Pablo Kuntz has been spending his time redubbing several scenes from newer Resident Evil entries featuring Wesker, such as the Resident Evil 1 Remake and Code Veronica. He has also ed his son, Lexonal, in playing through the entire Resident Evil series on YouTube and is currently playing Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. To help promote the channel, Kuntz has launched a Patreon, which includes Cameo-style messages and behind-the-scenes content as perks.
While it’s unfortunate Kuntz has gone unrecognized for his work for so long, it’s great to see the outpour of from fans. Of course, with how important Wesker is to Resident Evil, it makes sense that fans would be eager to hear from the voice actor himself. As for Wesker himself, it's unknown if the iconic villain will return to the series. Though canonically dead after Resident Evil 5, Wesker has made a career of returning from mortal injuries. With Resident Evil 9 promising a new story, it might not be out of the question to see the supposedly dead Albert Wesker return for Resident Evil's next big venture.
The amount of that fans have shown for Pablo Kuntz is a testament to what Wesker has meant to Resident Evil fans over the years. With Kuntz and other actors helping to bring the villainous bioengineer to life, Wesker, in a sense, has grown as a character with each new incarnation. Hopefully, it won’t be long before Resident Evil fans see those familiar shades and iconic smirk again.
