With the Resident Evil 4, and the changes to the game that can be expected.
As a franchise that gained its popularity with its vast range of disgustingly mutated foes and adrenaline rush-inducing fights, Capcom knows just how much players love to unlock absurdly devastating firearms capable of splattering enemies satisfyingly. There are some weapons that stand out as ridiculously overpowered, and super effective in ways that make the game both sillier and gorier, which is why most of them can't be unlocked until after your first playthrough.
Circular Saw
The Circular Chainsaw is perfect for getting out of tight corners and is arguably the best melee weapon in the entirety of the Resident Evil series. While the guns of the franchise are the primary weapons of choice, there’s no better backup when running low on ammo.
The only way to unlock the weapon is to beat Resident Evil 7 in four hours or less, proving the player deserves to dance around close-range foes like it was their lifelong dream. With the Circular Chainsaw players can easily hack through limbs of the Molded enemies, causing a bloodbath thanks to how overpowered this weapon is.
S.T.A.K.E.
Only to be bought at Duke’s Emporium after already beating the game and before entering Castle Dimitrescu, the S.T.A.K.E. from Resident Evil Village ironically lowers the stakes of death for the player.
Nicknamed “Piledriver" for its powerful capabilities of destruction, its whopping cost of 300000 Lei is worth every pretty penny. The semi-automatic magnum’s superior speed and firepower make it the most powerful gun in the game, being twice as powerful as the M1851 at the end of the first playthrough.
Chicago Typewriter
Found within one of Resident Evil 4 is perfect for shredding though Ganados without the threat of ammo depletion, significantly lightening the game’s difficulty for an easy playthrough.
With unlimited ammo as well as baffling firepower, there’s no question why it’s a favorite among fans. Once unlocked by completing Assignment Ada (or Separate Ways in versions other than the GameCube), the gun makes defeating tricky foes a greatly satisfying breeze, especially when exacting revenge on the bosses that trampled the player one too many times during their earliest run of the game.
RAI-DEN
The RAI-DEN is unlike any other weapon in the Resident Evil 3 Remake or any other game in the franchise. As an experiment of the Umbrella Corporation, its vast power comes with a simple, yet effective trick.
Unleashing its impressive power requires well-practiced aim, since focusing on an enemy's weak spot is the sole way to reach its maximum potential. The futuristic gun is available for purchase once the game has been completed, making sure the player has had time to sharpen their targeting abilities.
Colt Anaconda “Silver Serpent”
Once Jill Valentine questions Barry Burton if he needs any stronger weapons while the two venture through the Spencer Mansion, Barry answers as if he’s been waiting his whole life to be asked just that.
With one of the funniest quotes in the Resident Evil series, Barry exclaims, “I have THIS,” as he flaunts the power of his Colt Anaconda. Better known as the “Silver Serpent” in the Resident Evil Remake, the magnum can plow through near any foe in a few shots. However, because the ammo is limited at just 6 rounds, it should only be conserved for the most dire moments in Jill’s scenario.
Anti-Tank Rocket Launcher
Whether a horrifying creature or a mutated soldier is coming at the player, none will be prepared for the mighty force that is the Anti-Tank Rocket Launcher. Setting this off in the face of any foe will make them wish they were never born.
The Resident Evil 2 weapon lives up to its name with its anti-tank shells that can destroy just about anything in its path. Its extreme damage may be great for defeating annoyingly strong enemies, but beware, there isn’t enough ammunition to be blasting it off whenever the player feels like it.
Elephant Killer
Rivaling the Lightning Hawk, the Elephant Killer takes its namesake seriously. Though elephants need not worry, the strongest monsters in Resident Evil 6 that are worthy of being slaughtered by this brawny magnum definitely should.
Once Sherry or Jake discovers the revolver in an abandoned building after escaping the Ustanak, the revolver becomes a go-to for the player, when faced with intimidating foes. The only downsides to the ferocious weapon are its smaller clip size and delays between shots.
Linear Launcher
Originating in CODE: Veronica and The Darkside Chronicles, the Linear Launcher is an anti-B.O.W. weapon. The linear plasma launcher fires one huge blue energy projectile and is capable of vaporizing anything but the Gulp Worm in just a single hit.
The player gains access to the Umbrella Corp firearm to eliminate the mutated Alexia Ashford, whose speed makes it tricky to get an accurate hit on her, especially since it must recharge for a bit between shots. The only other time the weapon may be used is during the Battle Game, but its extreme power earns its spot on the list effortlessly.
Gatling Gun
Used throughout the multiple games in the Resident Evil series, the Gatling Gun is a perfect weapon to have in some of The Last of Us wish they had one when locked in a horde.
Renamed the Minigun in Resident Evil 2: Remake, it is obtained by finishing Scenario B with a ranking of B or higher. Its stunningly rapid fire rate, crazy power, and infinite ammo (except in Revelations) are quite amazing. Unfortunately, using it decreases the players rank and it can’t be aimed as accurately as most guns, keeping it second best to one iconic weapon in particular.
P.R.L. 412
Unlockable only after Completing Resident Evil 4 on Professional difficulty, the Plaga Removal Laser 412 is an exceptional weapon that rewards the players efforts with the ability to mow down any enemy in their way.
There’s no better way to get revenge on the harrowing bosses faced in the game than obliterating them effortlessly in one concentrated shot of the P.R.L. 412, other than El Gilantes and U3, who may take a few before succumbing to their fates. The boomstick includes unlimited ammo and two different settings, that can either be shot like any other firearm, or with charged blast.
