One of the most common complaints directed at Rockstar Games has to be the lack of a the best open-world titles of all time, with its amazing story, gameplay, and phenomenally designed map. It's incredibly odd that there isn't a native PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version, but things are looking up.
With Grand Theft Auto 6 getting delayed to 2026, there are rumors about a next-gen update arriving later this year. This would be awesome if it happened, but achievement/trophy hunters might speak in a different tone. Based on Grand Theft Auto 5's next-gen upgrade, it's in their best interest for achievement/trophy hunters to get a full 100% completion as soon as possible before transferring everything over to Red Dead Redemption 2's next-gen version.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Might Get A Next-Gen Update
Rockstar May Finally Give The Fans What They've Been Waiting For
Since Grand Theft Auto 6 got delayed until next year, what will Rockstar bring out in 2025, and will it be Red Dead Redemption 2 related? There are rumors about a Grand Theft Auto 4 remaster and a Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen version. According to GameReactor, Rockstar not only plans to release a Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen update for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year but also, around the same time, release the game on Nintendo Switch 2.

What GTA 6's New Release Date Means For A Potential Red Dead Redemption 3
With Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date change, fans may be wondering when Red Dead Redemption 3 will now launch. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look good.
It's unknown if the new features will arrive on PC simultaneously. Based on GTA 5, it's not likely. Red Dead Redemption 2's next-gen update is still a rumor, but it makes sense for Rockstar to do this, as GTA 6's May release next year is still a long way off. This next-gen update would be a nice way to hold people over until GTA 6, give fans what they've wanted for so long, and likely result in many jumping back into this open-world masterpiece. However, achievement/trophy hunters need to take action.
Achievement Hunters Must Get 100% Before Upgrading
A Ticket To Two Platinum Trophies
It's fair to assume that the Red Dead Redemption 2 next-gen transfer process will be similar to Grand Theft Auto 5. How GTA 5 worked is that you had to manually your story mode game save in the last-gen version to transfer over to the next-gen. Thankfully, migrating your GTA Online character was much easier and didn't require jumping back into the old version. Once everything's transferred, you should get all your earned achievements/trophies upon entering the game.
Maximizing efficiency is critically important for achievement hunters.
Keep in mind that you can not transfer back to last-gen. What hardcore achievement/trophy hunters will do is wait off on the next-gen version until they get full 100% completion. This is no easy task, as the Doomsday Heist Criminal Mastermind achievement has to be one of the hardest of all time. Once you get all achievements/trophies, you'll get a free 1750 gamerscore or platinum upon upgrading. The same will likely occur with Red Dead Redemption 2.
If you still haven't 100% completed the main story or have gotten all the online achievements, now's the time to do them. Even if completing all the challenges or finding that Western Bull Moose takes you too long, it's worth it not to immediately upgrade so that you can get the next-gen 100% right off the bat.

16 Best Saddles In Red Dead Redemption 2
The best Saddles in Red Dead Redemption 2 can improve your horse's Stamina, Health, and Stamina Regeneration, helping your steed become stronger.
Maximizing efficiently is critically important for achievement hunters, and there's a reason why the average completion time for next-gen GTA 5 is only 0 to 2 hours, according to TrueAchievements. Most get 100% completion upon upgrading, and you should do the same with Red Dead Redemption 2.
