The reboot has had two seasons so far which have been received well by returning Quantum Leap fans and new viewers in the NBC audience alike

It’s unclear what would have awaited in Quantum Leap season 3. However, the first two twist-filled seasons of the reboot already guaranteed it would be another rollercoaster for Ben, the central character replacing Scott Bakula's Sam Beckett from the original Quantum Leap. Since season 2 included an unexpected time-jump in the narrative it’s clear that NBC and reboot creators Steven Lilien had no qualms about keeping viewers on their toes, meaning speculation on what Quantum Leap season 3 could have been about could go in any direction.

The cancelation means that there are now three scientists bouncing around time, with the inclusion of Scott Bakula's Dr. Sam Beckett, who may never come home

With the cancelation of Quantum Leap coming as a surprise to the show's creators, a proper ending was not served up during the season 2 finale. Instead, fans were left with a hefty cliffhanger that they likely won't ever get answers for. Having nailed the formula to bring Ben home, Hannah needed someone to swap with him and Addison volunteered. However, instead of a proper swap, she merely ed him on his time-traveling adventure.

This blew the doors wide open for season 3 with the first-ever tandem leap and all of the story possibilities that the twist allowed. However, the cancelation means that there are now three scientists bouncing around time, with the inclusion of Scott Bakula's Dr. Sam Beckett, who may never come home. Quantum Leap season 3 may have fixed the show's ratings woes, but NBC decided it wasn't worth the risk.
