Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
This one is exceptional because it brings home one that is alien to the vast majority of cinema goers. As a former worker for British Royal Navy and having been to sea many times, and my male family being mariners, this movie had special appeal. The realism was authentic. However, one of the departures from the book was the abscence of the women on board that used to care for the 'grease monkeys' kids employed on board during battles to 'run' around the gun decks for the gunners. But it still gets 10/10 for being a magnificently realistic production.

A sequel would not have the same impact because the original was more about "seamanship" and the lives of the crew and less about war.
33 Years Later, This Daniel Day-Lewis Movie With 88% On Rotten Tomatoes Is Still The Best Western War Movie Of All Time
I concur with the comments thus far. Also, the props were superb and the sheer energy of the movie's action and stunts was exhausting. The romantic elements were, with Medeleine Stowe was a nice touch. The first scenes were extraordinarily surreal. Now this is an excellent movie.
The Medieval Battle In Ridley Scott's $218M Disappointment Gets Some Horse Details Right, But Even The Historian Is Unimpressed
I never have watched movies/films/whatever for history lessons but for enjoying the spectacle. This article's accuracy is also erroneously obsessing with Calvary rather than cavalry, did itself no favours, especially since the famous event had been missed by approximately 1000 years. Moreover, had the Persian archer cavalry been used as the historian suggested, the movie would have been over, halfway through, which would have defeated the object of the movie, I.e. to making millions. This movie is an epic; and the historian should wind in his neck.
