Wild considering this all started cause of the MCU. Fox owned the rights to the term 'mutant'. The MCU wanted to use Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in their films - in order to do so they had to change the lore and make them not be mutants at the very least.
Along comes 2014 and AXIS happens in the comics and suddenly they aren't mutants OR kids of Magneto anymore, just to make the burn worse. 2015 we hit Avengers Age of Ultron in the MCU and here we are.
It was so gross. That's why so many people hate it too.

It's definitely a weird choice! But the current editor isn't a huge fan of Krakoa. It's also not totally accurate: Magneto was resurrected TWICE by Krakoan methods. He is mentioned to have died at the start of Inferno (2021) # 1 trying to take down the Orchis Forge, and then shown to be resurrected after being killed a second time, by Omega Sentinel, in the same series. So it's either a mistake with the story or an obvious error pointing to some other cause of the illness. Weird indeed.
