It never needs to be resolved. There is no need regardless of a new series to ever reveal who Buffy ended up with and she doesn't need a man ever either, but if she chose to and since she is the slayer after all, there is no reason for her to not be with both of them. Has no one ever seen Paint Your Wagon? Buffy is a very special woman and could handle it.

James, it sounds like you don't get Buffy at all is more like it. She did at one time want the normal life, but by the end of the series, she has grown up and come to accept her role as the slayer to lead the other slayers and realized that the so-called normal life is not for her. She is a changed woman by then and no longer a little girl fantasizing about white picket fences any longer. You sound like a Josh Whedon; pretending you understand women's hearts and minds, but in reality, you are faking it like a typical misogynist, thinking you can mansplain to an actual woman what all woman should want and need, when you really haven't got a clue how we think and are trying to impose your thoughts and standards of what is "normal and right" onto us, acting like you know best what us little helpless women should be doing for our own good. Buffy has grown beyond you and your kind though!

Or in these modern times, Buffy could be in an open relationship with both of them. Buffy is a modern woman who "needs" neither of them, so as the feminist icon that she is, she could buck the one or the other tradition and be open with them both instead. Buffy isn't anybody's girl, and is her own person, and if there is anyone who could pull this kind of relationship off, it's the Slayer! There can be only one, and Buffy is it!!

Xander was the Scooby's heart. That's why he was able to save the world from evil Willow and so many other times he did; however, he was also a teenager growing up in supernatural Sunnydale the same as the rest of them all who also messed up in their growing up process as well. That was the point of the show. At the time of the show, things that Xander said and did that are not acceptable nowadays were normal teen behavior back then. You just have a personal dislike for him but are thinking for now times and emotionally, not ing how things were back in the late 90s and using your brain instead of personal emotions.
