I'm OK with how it ended . I at the time the writers didn't really have enough time to write a really good eending. The series essentially ended the episode before. The last episode using Riker on the holodeck was an interesting approach. It was essentially just flash forward. It allowed the writers to reverse course if the network changed its mind at the last minute, and decided to bring the show back for a 5th season.
